I've had experience with several BPs and i had one ARP but i had to sell it when it was about 5 yrs old. I want to get into larger pythons/boas, but i dont have much experience with them, what would be a good begginer BIG snake. I was thinking about a burm or another ARP.

Work up in steps.
Burms are NOT a good beginner snake.

OK you had an ARP and had to sell it after 5 yrs. Why?
How bout a blood python or Borneo Short tail Python. They get really thick and heavy bodied, are gorgeous to look at, eat huge prey, and stay a reasonable size. They give you the idea of a big snake without getting 25' long
Or just get a BCI.
There are enough African Rock, Burms, Retics, Anacondas in adoptions now why increase this number.
BTW Some fool actually paid you for an Adult African Rock Python? I would have figured you would have to pay someone to take it.

Go with a BCI.
Gets large but manageable.
Much better choice than a burm.

Just get a Retic. On a serious note, work your way up. Also, let's looks at some questions. Are you willing to keep a large constrictor for it's whole life? Not just get it and once it's like 12 ft decide it's to big and give it away. Is there others to help you handle the large constrictor once he reaches a good size? Can you afford to pay the expenxive prey bills to keep him/her healthy?

Ed- i had to sell my ARP because my parents were too worried about the size and stuff, they didnt think i was ready for one, but i handled it just fine, i never had any problems or anything, but i sold it to a friend of mine's mom that is a herpetoligist and has several large snakes. I still go and see it, i miss him

I think im going to get a BCI, thanx guys

A BCI can still reach a decent size. Much larger than a BP. If you had to get rid of one snake already because your mother didn't like the size, why get a BCI? At a minimum, a BCI will be double the size of a BP.

BCIs get 6-7 ft for males and 7-9 ft for females. Your family doesn't seem to want any large snakes. Go with something smaller. It's never a good idea to get a snake when once it gets a good size you have to get rid of it.
