We just made the jump for snake #3 and purchased a Children's Python.
It is cute as can be.... tiny little thing, about 5" long and about as big around as a pencil.
But it is very nippy..... None of our other snakes have been like that.
Is it becuase of the small size and new environment or are Baby Childrens typically nippy.

New environment, I would say Stormy,
he /she should quieten down pretty quick.
Is it deffenitly a childrenii and not a maculosa.
Ihave been told spotted pythons are more common in the U.S.
than children's though very similar.

I don't know much about either but I know if you go to dogpile.com an search for tha names of both, you will come up with webpages that have descriptions of both..then you could compare em both 2 ur snake..

I have held only two baby childrens, but they have both been VERY nippy. But after a few weeks of handling they seem to calm down.

Sounds more like the new environment to me. Give it a week or two to settle in and handle often afterwards. He/she should pretty much calm down.

One way to tell the difference between the two (Children's & spotted)
is by their pattern Children's have a less ditinct or contrasting pattern
to the spotted.
Does yours look like this lil' guy.

or more like this fella...

It looks like it is a Childrens.
It does look like the pic of the Childrens and I found a site where there was a comparison of the scales on it's head of the Childrens and the Spotted.
As fas as the aggresiveness, it seems to have clamed down now that it has been in it's new home for a couple of days.
Thank you for all the information!

It was given to me as a gift by my little snake loving sister.
She paid $69.00 for it at Animal Jungle, a local pet shop.
Thie childrens is the third snake that I have gotten from Animal Jungle and they all seem to be doing great. My little sis has 0.1.0 Ball and 0.0.5 Corn Snakes all from the same place.

woah, the only price I've seen so far for 1 was 175$ plus shipping.. I thought that was a little crazy for such a small animal..
