New Addition :)
Before any of you say anything! The only reason that the tank cover is being held down with rocks is because by the time I had everything scrubbed, clean, and ready, only then did I realize that the previous owners had incuded no way of securing the top. They told me he had gotten out before, but I figured they had solved the problem. However, it's 10:30 at night and I can't get a screen with locks till tomorrow, so don't think less of me! They also didn't include the stand with their delivery as I was told they would...
Anyways, this is Mud, my new adopted ball python. I am told he is two years old. He came to me on old, wet, icky bark and his only source of heat was an undertank heater.
Here he is exploring his clean new home. You can see the original water dish that came with him. I don't think he was able to soak very often...

Slithering around... He's about 3 and half feet long.
And he's on aspen. Aspen! Not cedar or pine. No one freak out. Hehe.

u do know the uth is all he will need for heat! that over head light will just dry out his cage and provide way too much heat! i would loss that light! keep his temps mid to high 80s! and tho gages are trash get better gages! if u want to keep them move them 1in from the bottom. also u need to get a dimmer or a therostat of some kind. 0h yea he needs one more hide on his cool side! just my input!
p.s very nice snake u have there! lol

nice snake
What do you have his temps at?
The reason I ask is I do agree with Killer69..However my uth NEVER heated the ambient air enough to raise the temps enough..
I live in an igloo..LOL Not literally..but Ive been accused of it before..LOL
Anyways I have to have a UTH AND a basking lamp to keep my snakes at the right range..I also usually have a pot of water boiling in the kitchen or a vaporizer going in the winter to keep the humidity right..During spring its not a problem though.
Anyways, great cage! Im glad you got him away from the other people

Everytime I post something I get yelled at.
It was 10 at night and I set him up with what I had available.
It is still cold in my area so without a heat source from above my tanks are around 70 degrees even with my heat pads - too cold. The gauges came like that, I am going shopping today (yay!) to get better stuff.

Depending on how hot or cool your room is where you're keeping your ball python, depends whether or not you will need an overhead light. Heck, even a small 25 watt bulb will do if you can't get the temps right...
But low to mid 80s (82-86) is good for the hot side and mid to high 70s for the cool side.
Nice little bugger by the way.

All done!
Thanks Adrya.
Here is the final setup and he seems so much happier now than when I first met him in his original home. Yay! I ended up putting a 100 watt ceramic bulb above him and he still has his heat pad under about an inch of Aspen. His temp on the warm side is about 80 degrees, and the humidity is around 65-70. There was a weird and random plexiglass divider in the tank that was about 4 inches high that I was able to knock out to make room for another hide. I imagine it used to be a turtle tank or something. No more rocks on top!

And here is my boa tank, just so he doesn't feel left out.
