i want to buy a baby retic tommorow at a reptile show.
is it a good ideal..
i am very expierenced with big burms and boas, but i heard retics can be mean is this true.
if i find a baby retic that does not bite does this mean it will be a good pet.
how much should i pay for one, and how fast do they grow, thanks

Retics can be nippy. Expect it to be 9' long in a year. A friend of mine got one and when its coiled up youd swear it was a 5' snake because its very thin, he unravelled it and it wouldnt stop unraveling They eat like crazy. I don't recomend them as a pet but who am I to talk I have a burm too.
At a show Probably $100.00 Most herp societies have a few retics on the adoption list. You should try that route first.

Ok, just cause it don't bite ya then doesn't mean a thing!
Males are less testy and moody , lots of handling and attention combined with lots of food.
Just don't do an SFE.
They grow FAST!
There size is double direct proportional input to what ya put in them.
Just don't under feed, or you'll have probs.
Over feeding you'll have probs in the long run, with its weight and fatty deposits around its heart and lung areas.
My male, for example reached nearly 8 feet before a year was up. He is in a slow down spot now but I expect another rapid growth spurt soon.
My female, still quite under a year, is catching up quickly!

A good natured young retic is absolutely no guarantee it'll make a nice adult. I've heard of and seen many, many animals that get nasty around their second birthday. Of course, thats also the cue for many people to abandon them.
Anyway, if you are familiar with large pythons, understand the very food oriented nature of their existance, then you shouldn't have much of a problem. Just watch the food intake like eddie said. A good healthy balance... so many people cram food in them trying to get them big, which just ends up shortening their life span. =)
Post pics when you get one.

[i]Contrary to popular belief of some, the retic..aka...Reticulated PYTHON is actually a [bPYTHON NOT an RTB. That being said and done.. This post should have been placed into the PYTHON forum...
UMmmm.. Are you the same person who keeps repeatedly placing posts in forums that have absolutely NO binding relationship to where you place them at all ? Thus making more work for me [ now if I could just get other admins to "move" incorrectly placed forums it would lighten this up even from my end ] in having to serve an eviction notice, pack the posts baggage up and then send em on the "fly" to the correct forum.. Of course not until after I place a note such as this one on the thread also. REALLy, HONESTLY... There is NO need to try and make sure that I have enough work to do here on RTb at all. I find plenty to do and a bit of time by NOT having to do things like this with postings would give me even more time to post around the forums or do other admin stuff as well. Thanx though for making sure that there is always plenty to do here
Soo were you the one that placed the tree boa/python post in the wrong area that I recently left a note like this one on also ?
moving the post...
