Repti-Sun 2.0

I read somewhere that this is a good for ball pythons. Is this true? I also need something as far as light because I use a C.H.E. for heat.

That's a UVB light, right? Snakes don't need UVB.

Yep, just be sure to remeasure your temps as a regular household bulb produces quite a bit of heat. Flourescent is cooler.

gjmccag will become famous soon enough
if im not mistaken, if you are using a CHE you dont even need to have any lighting besides that because if the temps are correct, light from the room is adequate.

I run mine on room light. CHE in one and a RHP in the other. It makes senseto me anyway, normal cycle of light vs dark.

Don't they need some light for their natural photoperiod?

I tend to run strip flourescents in all of my enclosures, they are controlled by a time switch to give constant photo-periods. I do use Repti-sun 2.0 although it is not necessary I feel that it is slightly closer to the natural environment although only at low UVB intensities. As snakes consume whole food items they are nutritionally complete and as such D3, etc is present in the food item, so full spectrum lighting could be considered a luxury rather than a necessity.

Also care needs to be taken with lighting in terms of albino's and other pigmentation varaints as high lighting intensity can be detrimental to their eyes over a period of time.

All in all I don't believe their is a definite right or wrong, just what makes you feel happiest about the well being of your pets.

Cheers
Nick
