Now a f/t feeder
Well this was my first attempt at feeding the baby ball. and I must say she is a natural. grabbed it with just a bit of wiggling. Sorry but i am just a bit excited that this went so easy. The breeder was a live feeder, and i will only do f/t.

Great job! She's so cute.
Baby balls in general seem pretty easy to get them to eat anything while they're babies, live or dead. But it's best to get them on f/t rats first thing, though!

I know that's a hopper mouse in the pic. I didn't want to confuse her, so i stuck with what the breeder was feeding. I'll switch her out soon enough .
One thing is for certain. It takes a lot less time to thaw them little suckers then the rats for my boa lol

So glad to hear.
Not to hijack but here's a story. I went to the pet store to get frozen feeders for me and a friend who was expecting a new juvi ball. The "pet store guy" told me I should get live because after the trip the ball wouldn't eat f/t. Shew....she ate after only 4 days with no problems. Take that Mr. Pet store guy.

I see that you use a separate Tupperware to feed your ball... I also have a ball and am very new at this. Do you do that to avoid the "bedding" from being ingested? Is this a good practice to start?

yes exactly right. I do it with my boa also. I always feed in a separate container. They seem to know that hey this is feeding time. As soon as i put my boa in the feeding box he knows it's go time.

Hey kenzie,
1st off welcome to RTB.net.
The short and sweet anwser is yes. what kind of beding are you using?
If you are using news papers then the chances are smaller for them to injest something they are not supose to. But to totaly elimanate any chances of problems then you might want to go with a seperate feeding container.
there are a number of reason that you may want to do this...
another one is that so the snake doesn't assoiate you feeding him once his cage is opened. (some bites have happened this way).
Hopefully this will help a little. (sorry about my spelling)

Alright... I get it. I have a great ball. I have him on Aspen in a 20gal tank, the warm side is at about 78 and the cool side is 68. I'm working on trying to warm the tank up... I'll have it soon. And I try to keep the humidity at about 50% except during his shed. I've learned a lot from you all... but this is a new one. I didn't really think about it. I mean I could just feed him on the wood floor couldn't I and move him about 2 hours later to his cage right? He is very “handlable” and puts up with his 6 year old “daddy”, my son amazingly. He LOVES to climb in our fichus tree! It's great.
If I were to get him a feeding container, how long do I leave him in there before I transfer him back?
