my ball python appears to pant a lot. i bought him three weeks ago and i THINK hes healthy but the curtains are being drawed to the fact that he might be unhealthy, im new to herps and just need some good advice. he breaths in, then breaths out quite fastly. is this normal.
also all he does is lye around either basking or hes in his hide. he was quite actively climbing and inspecting during the days i was in the pet shop. is this normal?

Seems like his breathing is normal as I've seen my snakes do that as well... they breathe in really big then exhale kinda fast.
Most of the time during the day they will be in their hides, that's what they do until it's night time and then they come out at night -- they're nocturnal. If he was climbing around during the day in the petshop, he was either hungry, looking for a way to get out, or was uncomfortable and couldn't find a different temperature to regulate himself, as most petstores don't keep proper temps in the enclosures they keep their reptiles in.

Is your snake "open mouth breathing"? Is it that kind of panting?
