please help my blood python
Hi my name is John and I own a blood python named Soccrates. I have had him for about one year.He has some sort of urinary problem where he can not urinate. As a result from time to time I have been forced to squese out what appears to be hardened urine balls, that are rock hard, which is followed by his feceis. If there is anyone who knows what the problem may be please inform me. I hope its something I have been doing wrong so I may correct the problem. He has a great temperment but, i would rather not continue to squese him when he gets larger. Thanks for any help available.

Blood pythons pose a difficult husbandry situation. You have to keep them dry so they don't get scale rot but you also have to keep the humidity extremely high. A humid hide box with wet sphagnum moss is your best bet. It should keep a little haven of 90+% humidity. Anyway, your snake is dehydrated. Push fluids and raise the humidity or make a humid hide. A couple of cc of pedialyte every couple of days fed through an oral syringe will do wonders for his urate issue.

Try soaking him in a warm bath every now and then. Works for all my Borneos and Bloods

low humidity usually leads to that form of 'constipation' especially in bloods. increase humidity and keep its belly warm with a UTH, it helps with digestion and the passing of feces.

UTH isn't necessary...as long as the ambient temp in the hot spot is about 91 degrees he should be ok. Try bumping up the cool end a bit too as my Bloods all like to sit on the cool side of the enclosure.

Just curious does she ever pee by herself? Bloods hold their pee and poo in longer than any other snake I have ever owned. I'm talking maybe a month or two before using it. But when they do go you can smell it a mile away. All snakes have the white calcuim deposits when they pee. I am not sure if this is what your talking about though. I always thought Bloods should be kept in very high humidity and at 90 degrees on the hot spot until I became friends with Tracy Barker of VPI. She is the Blood Queen!!!! She told me to give them a hot spot no higher than 84 degrees since they have a very slow metabolism which made since to me since I kept Emeralds for years at 84 degrees and they never had any health problems. She told me people keep Bloods way too humid also and to just spray the cage down and just give them a nice soaking a few times a month for a hour or so in a rubbermaid. She also said your at more risk getting them sick keeping them too hot and too humid than a little cooler and a little less humid. Good luck with her.
And who can argue with a person that produce's animals like this every year?
