How long did it take for your royals to eat. And also what did you use eg: mice, chicks, etc.
Also what technic did you use!
My royal was born in the wild and brang over here, so thats WB or CB im not sure. Apparently you have more trouble with them, anyone else have a WB royal?
Thanx RR

That would be wc (wild caught) .
But it sounds like you are having a tough feeding bp.
As for how long on my bps, most here were captive bred with one exception, a wild caught female that would strike anything and everything and only sometimes eat the prey.
I bought one at a pet store that I had to tube feed for several months before becoming a darn good eater.
At the moment, I have a small female that hasn't refused a meal yet, in fact I can hold her up and offer food. She strikes, constricts and will eat even while being held.

My first snake was a 2 YO WC BP... all those acronyms! Anyway, she was around 2 1/2 - 3 FT long. I had her for about 2 months, and she NEVER ate for me. I tried feeding her mice, but nothing else. I even tried force feeding her...lemme tell ya...she HATED me after that! I have heard Hamsters or Gerbils *may* help, as it "more closely resembles what they eat in the wild" but don't quote me on that...just someone's advice. I heard Balls are hard to feed, and especially being WC, it just made it harder. Good luck feeding her...you *might* have your work cut out for you..... And, yeah, to agree with eddie...she struck at me NUMEROUS tiimes. That's the main reason she's gone now. However, she never struck at the food, unless it was walking on her, and even then it was just a "GET OFF ME!!!" strike. So, like I said...stick with it, and good luck

I've been told that scenting your ball python's prey item with chicken broth will usually make them take it. Wild caught bps are notorious for being difficult eaters, though. Good luck with that.

I got my royal almost 3 weeks ago, and it just ate for me last night for the first time. I waited till he/she was active and crawling around in the cage. Then i snuck in quietly, opened the cage lid and dangled a thawed mouse about 3 inches away from the snakes face. At first it didn't want it, but after a while it, WHACK, the mouse was toast. Try using mice that are brown, or young pre killed gerbels. Also, i would buy the book "the Ball Python Manual" by Philippe de Vosjoli, it has an entire chapter on feeding problem pythons. Good Luck!

In the past I've had a female captive born and a male "wild" caught ball pythons, both only a few months old when I acquired them and both ate (thawed mice) equally as ravenous as the other. As a matter of fact like Eddie mentioned my male would even eat while being held. You didn't mention how old your python is, and I think age may have a little something to do with it (food imprinting with an older animal and that sort of stuff). Patience is another method, as long as the critter looks healthy (i.e. enough meat on the bones) sooner or later he'll get hungry. Maybe warming him up a little more will coax his metabolism into a meal!
Good luck!
