crazy balls!
ok i got a ?! why in the world do my ball pythons stay up all night trying to climb the glass up to the screen! my male ball was doing it when he was in the 10 gal tank! i put him in the big wood encloser and he dont do it! now i have my female ball in the 10gand she too stays up all night doing the same thing! is it that the tank is too small she is only 18in long and mabie 130g when wet!
i am really happy with my snakes and i feel there happy too! in fact i got the male ball on rats and he has not even missed a meal and i kinda thought mabie he would not eat today after moving into his new home just 3 days ago! but he proved me wrong! the female eat a mouse today after he new cage move also! i will try her on rat pubs in the next few feedings!

It's something they do. My baby female ball does it at night... it's the fact that they know the fresh air is coming in there through the lid and so are all different types of smells and such.
But that's my opinion of why.

Exactly, the male in the bigger enclosure may not be doing it since its bigger than hes used to and he feels more secure hiding for now. Thats completely normal since balls are secretive by nature. Good luck and look forward to seeing your new cage

The only time my ball got out when I had him was when I left the lid unlatched and she ate all of my mice. I had 3 mice that I was going to be breeding in a 20 long without a lid and she ate all 3. 1 of the females was about to drop her first litter too. lol They are a bit more trickey than you think.

try this, put YOURSELF in a closet, spend the rest of your life in there and see if you do not climb the walls trying to get out!
I am anti SMALL tight living conditions (aka. bins) for snakes. When was the last time you were walking through the woods and ran across a 10 gallon aquarium with a snake living in it?
So IMO, the answer to your question, yours like mine do not like living in close quarters.
I had a 1000g female ball living in a bin the equivalent to a 20g tank and she did the same thing day and night. When i moved her into the "Herp Hotel", see pic, she stopped doing it COMPLETLY! Her portion of the enclosure is 2' X 4' X 2', with plenty of hides. She along with the rest of my collection seem much more content.
Just my opinion. I am sure someone will want to argue with me about it though.

Since I placed my female into a larger container, 4x2x2, so has not cruised as much, but when she was in her 50 gallon, with a half screen lid, she would be up every night smelling like crazy and looking for any weaknesses in the cage. She still is the most inquisitive of my snakes.

hmmmmm....... my ball does this all night, too! i feel bad for him and wonder if he's unhappy. and as i'm really not gonna have any money to buy a bigger enclosure he's just gonna have to make do, i guess. that sucks. i wish i could buy him something bigger, but that probably wont be an option for a little bit.
he's two feet and i have him in a 50 gallon, so its not horrible or anything....... hopefully he's not too unhappy.....
