ball python question

I am getting my baby ball python today. I have my rosy boa set up in a 20 gallon critter tank. I set up a 10 gallon aquarium for the baby python. He is 4 months old. Should I put the rosy ( he is about 13" long) in the 10 gallon and give the ball, who is bigger the 20 gallon tank? Or would the ball be happy in the 10 gallon for a couple of months? Everyone is getting nice new homes after the first of the year. I am just unsure as to what to do. Thanks yet again for your advice. connie

Put him in the 10 gallon, ball pythons like small cramped spaces as it makes them feel secure and changin the rosy over will probably stress that out too and you don't really need or want 2 upset snakes lol. I have a 2ft girl in a medium size contico tub about 12-18" x 6-10" and she strike feeds everything, moved her up and feeding stopped so small and cramped is good but obviously not so small they cant move about.

As long as your enclosure can be set up to fit into the requirement for a ball python and give it a decent gradient of temps so it can thermoregulate, most balls don't require a ton of room. Make sure it has nice secure dark hides on each side to hide in and a water bowl, whatever substrate you choose (we start all our new ones on papertowels for a month) and keep an eye on temps and humidity. Give it a week or so to settle in before you feed or handle and basically you should be good to go.

Congrats on the new snake. Royals are wonderful (but then I'm very biased LOL).

I would agree with Jojo and Rachel. The ball will be fine in the 10g with proper hides/temp/humidity etc. I have a 50g I put my baby ball in and he would not come out and explore until I put a bunch of hides, fake plants, and jungle gym to clutter things up and make it seem smaller. Now he comes out regularly and looks around, and always has somewhere close to slither off too if he needs to feel safe. Hope this helps.
