help with abandoned pythons
I am currently in possession of two abandoned burmese pythons in lieu of $3500 he owed me. A 8 ft. male and a 14 ft. female green albino patternless. My roommate moved out and left them! I know nothing about them, but I need to sell them. Does anyone know what they might be worth and where I can sell them? I have been reading as much as I can and I will not turn them out as some people have been know to do. Any help I can get would be appreciated.

Burms are hard to get rid of I am sorry to say. My suggestion is to go to any local petshops and ask around to see if anyone there is interested in snakes and is interested in them or knows someone who might be. In the meantime you are going to have to try your best to care for them. I am sorry your roommate did that to you, that is horrible of them to just dump their snakes on you without making sure you wanted them or was ready for them. I dont know if you would get the $3500, I kind of doubt it, but maybe if they come with some nice cages too!
Anyways good luck!

Why are they hard to get rid of? Bad breed or just not popular?

They're hard to get rid of because there aren't very many people out there who can handle a big snake, and those who can often find them for free because there are so many unwanted ones out there. Breeders just keep producing them, even though people can't handle them. Petstores sell cute little baby burms to unsuspecting folks, or folks who think they can keep them smaller or give them to a zoo when they get too big. When they find out they are wrong, they either release them into the 'wild' (which is very illegal) or they give them up to a reptile rescue or a petshop. Those that try to sell them quickly find that for such a large, beautiful, exotic snake, they aren't really worth anything at all.

I would go after the $3,500 from the guy. Call off the "deal" you made with the roomate.... Obviously he knew the burms wouldn't get you your money back, that's why he left them. At least you won't give up on the snakes though....there's so many of the giant snakes that are homeless already and it's really rather sad that people keep breeding them like they do. Good luck!

Not trying to make it sound like a bad thing, I mean good luck. But yeah like others said, you can get big burms for free often so people dont often pay a lot. If you were into other reptiles they might have some trade value. But honestly ask around locally to people into snakes, maybe put an ad in the paper. Just make sure the person knows what they are getting and they are prepared for a burm. And about the cages... I'm sorry I can offer no solace there, burm cages are no fun to clean! Good Luck! (no it wont be that bad I'm teasing you) but good luck anyways

I don't know what would be a better chance of getting "rid" (i hate using that term but at the moment can't think of a better way to put it) of them.... putting them up for sale or adoption.
I wonder how old those albino green burmeses are, would they still have the same problem with Burmese Disease as normal green burmese pythons do, and only live a few years? I hate to bring that up on this matter.
I wish I could have a burmese and adopt one, but I have no job, no space, and more importantly, I have no experience with handling burms. I'm still depending on my dad (I wish I wasn't) for helping me with my hobby by providing me the money for pet supplies.

I would not just "give them away"
As everyone here keeps stating, how big they get (and they do!!!) you can't just give them to someone or they are going to be dumped eventually onto someone else or outside. I hate this, i hate that they sell them.
How about a rescue, there are some that defintely will take large snakes and prefer taking them to them going into te wrong hands or out in the nearest pond!
Sorry about your money...
