I havn't done a forum for a while but here goes. You may remember that I got a royal a while back, a lot has happened since then.
The royal I got hadn't eaten for a month so the shop let me swap it for a definite defrost feeder. If they could get the first one to feed they'd swap back. Sounds fair.
The second royal hasn't eaten since I got it, neither has royal 1 at the shop. Royal 2 seems really interested but will lose interest at the last second. My answer: space.
We all know that royals like small compact spaces. So I have put a smaller tank in the original.
I believe the royal was just nervous of the vast space, also the tanks in the shop were smaller thus it ate only there. I think ive got it sussed! What do you think?

Worth a shot.
Also if you don't have hides in for their security they can be jittery too.

i agree with the smaller tank theory, since they are ambush hunters i feed by moving the pray in front of the hide. i have pretty good success with it. even now and than i have to tap him with it a little blood and walla. it seems to work. also i feed about 9:00 my time which it is getting dark so the room is dark. he seems to prefer it to trying to feed during daylight hours. it works for me, good luck

Are these babies wild caught or something? Our Royal is like a dustbin! He has never refused a meal yet, but I know 100% that he's captive bred.

My royal will only eat from his hide. So that theory could work and is worth a shot. Most petstores have WC ball pythons or farm raised.

Well my nutjob male BP finally ate yesterday. He has only been eating Live . Ive tried everything so far no luck. I put in a smaller mouse and he eate it down like nothing to it. The funny think is he's in a Vision 221 so for some reason he loves to rest on the lip of the door frame. So he sees the mouse and all of a sudden thinks he is an Amazon tree Boa. While On the ledge he slinks down while still hanging on the lip, bites and constricts the mouse (still hanging) then tries to consume the mouse, then falls to the floor with the mouse half eaten. It must have been enough to spur his feeding response because he ate a medium rat after that too. This was the first time he has eaten since March.

Can you use a hair dryer on a defrost to warm it up? If so for how long?

Glad to hear it finally ate!!! I had to assist feed an Emerald of mine last night. It had only eaten once before last night, since buying him in March. I hope it is smooth sailing from here on out for you.

I do, once it's been thawed in warm water for 45 minutes. It brings out the rodent odor. I only use it for about 3-5 minutes. It's also useful if the ziploc bag leaks and the rodent gets wet. Sometimes I set it under a CHE for a few minutes too, but you need to pay close attention if you do that.

If someone has a cunning plan and he discusses it openly, does this make him a cunning linguist? just currious.
Johnny....try rats. my emerald would only ever take a mouse of any kind if there was a rat odor in the room and that would be after an hour of mind games...when I switched to rats of appropriate size...WHAM! If you are already feeding rats....it must be you lol j/k...start a thread in "feeding" forum and list out all that you are doing and how you are set up. Hopefully someone might get an idea of what is going on. Emeralds can be tricky sometimes but if it fed before..should keep going.

Thanks, Julius. If I have to assist feed him again, I will start a thread in the "feeding" forum. The only problem with feeding him rats, is he is only 7 months old. Here is a pic:
And here is a link to a Corallus forum where I did post a topic on this guy:
Possible Problem Feeder
Let me know what you think, Julius.

What about the basics? What are the enclosure temperatures? Is there a temperature gradient? Is the enclosure in a heavily traveled area of the house or in a nice quiet corner or location?

John White-
Are your questions directed at me regarding my ETB?? If so, here are excerpts from posts on another forum regarding him:
<TABLE BORDER=0 ALIGN=CENTER WIDTH=85%><TR><TD><font class="pn-sub">Quote:</font><HR></TD></TR><TR><TD><FONT class="pn-sub"><BLOCKQUOTE> I maintain excellent temp (82-85) and humidity (79-88% as of late, 81-91% previous) levels. I keep a strict 12/12 photoperiod schedule. I use a combination of clip-on desktop and CPU Heatsink fans for ventilation. I mist 3 times daily. </BLOCKQUOTE></FONT></TD></TR><TR><TD><HR></TD></TR></TABLE>
<TABLE BORDER=0 ALIGN=CENTER WIDTH=85%><TR><TD><font class="pn-sub">Quote:</font><HR></TD></TR><TR><TD><FONT class="pn-sub"><BLOCKQUOTE> Yes, he is in an area of low traffic. I installed a lock on the door to his room about 3 months ago. The only people who go in or out is my wife and I. For the most part, the lighting is artificial. However, at times of elevated outside daytime temps, I open the windows (as they are covered for insulation purposes) for light and to cool off the room. I used to have a reversed day/night cycle for my snakes. To combat the cold winter temps here. When it was daytime for us, I had it as nighttime for my snakes. Hence the blocked-out windows. I have since switched them over to standard day/night cycles. Right now, he is kept in a smaller 15qt. Rubbermaid container.
</BLOCKQUOTE></FONT></TD></TR><TR><TD><HR></TD></TR></TABLE>
Previously, I forgot to mention that his nighttime low temps fluctuate between 76-79 degrees. I use a Taylor Digi Thermometer to accurately monitor enclosure and room temps.

pinky rats are small enough for their very first meal...they grow gradually so there is a rat size for every emerald

(5 hours later, when calmer) Okay, I rang the reptile store and they understood. The man who answered even chuckled "It's a nuisance, isn't it?" . He told me to go there with the snake on the weekend and he'd sort it out. I feel slightly better!
