Meet El Cajone
Here is my sweet El Cajone! Pics from last night - it just got too late to post them. Using the measuring program he is about 37". If you look close at the first pic you should be able to see his scars and the defect/injury at the tip of his tail. The scars have actually lessoned since I got him. He is looking so much better . . . still can't get a pic to show his spin well . . . it is so pronounced. Is this normal with a BP or because of his scars? Anyway - here he is.

I guess ya mean spine?
Not normal for a BP for a pronounced spine.
Is he eating good for you?
Properly sized items too?

Ooops - I see the typo. He eats well and has never refused to eat. I am feeding him a small rat every 7-10 days. Tried a medium rat a couple weeks ago. He ate it but seemed to 'fight' with it, as in dragging it around, flipping around with it, before eating it. It did not appear too big once in but he acted like it was a bit of a problem getting it in. So I gave him a small again last weekend and will do so again this weekend. He was quite underweight when I got him and he has filled out nicely IMO. I hope this is appropriate for him . . . he was so poorly when I got him that I gave him rat fuzzies on the vet's recommendation until we could be sure how he would handle regular eating and to build him up to more appropriate size rats. Any other suggestions? I'm always willing to listen so I can do my best by him.

Sounds like you are on the right path, which is patience and going slowly.
Trying to make them eat too much and gain weight too quickly is bad also, so keep at it slowly

It sounds as if you are doing well. As you may know, it is not uncommon for a ball python to be a little slow about eating, but it sounds as if this one is doing great so far. Keep it up!

Thanks, guys! He has always eaten regularly for me. *knock on wood* After reading lots of things here since joining I felt more comfortable taking it slow for him. And it really helps to hear from someone else with more experience that I am doing right by El Cajone. Thanks again!
