Please REREAD my statement...I said that i wasnt going to bother arguring with what you said and that I was gonna leave that up to the community to decide.. What i said in my original post was not an opinion. It's advise that has been given to me that I am in turn giving to Mike. Giving useful knowledge and giving an opinion are 2 totally different things. I did not make an arguementive statement. I just said my piece and dropped it, however you had to go and put words in my mouth saying that you didnt get the "PM about me always being right"
Just do me a favor and ask anyone here if I think I'm always right. And I will guarentee you that anyone here will say that I dont. I have never nor will I always be right. I was merely trying adviseMike because he asked for it and I was just being a friend to him to help out.
So before you jump down my throat again for something stupid. I will say this...
anyone and everyone who is a member of this community is entitled to an opinion, whether it is helpful or not, but if people are going to say spiteful things and disrupt any civil conversation then it would be in the best interest not to say anything at all. I for one do not have anything against you Jason, but if your going to go out of your way and be a child then so be it. Just dont be putting words in my mouth because I never said them. And if you're going to keep up at this then let me know so that I can put you on Ignore.

Well put Lethargic... we certainly don't need all the personal zings buzzing around here. Worse case, feeding in a tote is still good advice.

I never meant to put words in your mouth, and I take it back if it seemed like I did. I am not here to start fights, or be confontational, I am here to share my experience, thoughts, and opinions with others, and I think I have done so. Even though you and I don't agree on this matter, who cares. I respect your opinion, and would expect you do the same. I can agree to disagree with you on this one. No big deal. You do things your way, and I do my things my way.

Well I too am a eat at home kid of herper. All my adults get fed in their enclosures. ESPECIALLY the burms. The boas are on newspaper and with my female when she smells rat in the room there is really no way to move her to another place to feed without getting bitten. On the other hand, I can go in an hour after she eats and reach right in a touch her with any sort of responce on her part. My male could care less what is going on. If there is a rat in the cage he eats it, if an hand is in there he ignores it. One of the keys is that I wash my hands before going into the snake room if I am going to be handling them, and I mean without fail.
My babiy boas are all fed in 6qt. tubs right now because they are doubling up in the 28qt. rack until they are all sold. But after they are down to the final 4 holdbacks they will all get fed in their tubs in the rack.
The only reason to really move a snake for feeding is if you keep it on loose substrate in it's cage. Other than that they are always going to feed better for you if they are in a familiar enviroment where they feel secure. And it doesn't matter if it is a ball, boa, burm or cornsnake. If they are moved to a different location they will be distracted from the task at hand, feeding, and me more likely to want to investigate the new smells and landscape of the feeding tote.
I await the impending rebuttals with baited keyboard.
David

Thats fine jason...no worries...as i said before I have nothing against you and think you have some really good advise too and of couse someone is going to make a stink about advise we give...as it is not uncommon..lol
But in anycase as far as this thread as a whole..all snakes are going to have different dispositions so there is going to be this underlying issue on whether to feed within vivs or not. So if your snake(s) are the kind that only react to being fed in the enclosure than do what you must.
And as said before dont stress your ball will eventually eat

oh and another thing i forgot to say....if you people who own full grown burms and stuff. Its totally understandable that you must feed in the same enclosure.. I wouldnt want to bother trying to move a heavy animal that doesnt want to do what you want it to do...lol

ok thanks lethargic and everyone else for there advice it is appreciated, the only thing that limits your knowledge is ignorance to other peoples ideas and experiences. we would'nt have this site to share experiences and ideas if there was one right way to do things, thats the whole point so lets just get along we'll all benefit.

by the way im thrilled with the response anyway good to hear everyones opinion it does help, i'll just have to be patient with my ball python i'm sure he'll come around he's in a good environment no stress so just a matter of time i won't be handling till he eats either, i think i've had it to easy with my boa never missed a meal in 2 years i'm to paranoid not use to the more challenging individuals but its all a learning process which i enjoy as we all do otherwise i would'nt keep aquiring these amazing reptiles, lol

just thought i'd add to this old thread the ball python is now an eating machine, i think they just take a long time to settle in he is now eating adult mice weekly and has really put on alot of weight in the past month looks like a totally different snake i'll post pics when i next get him out the transformation is incredibly he's a fat little guy now in the cute ball python way. was only eating the odd pinkie rat for 4 months now he devours adult mice and still wants more. i limit handling though to only about 5 mins a week does'nt seem to enjoy it though so i tend to leave him alone. not that it bothers me i've got my king and bci to handle and they seem to love being out. he's never aggressive just seems and bit on edge. the cool thing about balls though is they don't need regular handling to stay tame so why stress him. thanks lethargic for your advice during my bad spell with him all the patience now seems so worthwhile he's turning into a really cool royal. although he's been a pain you learn alot from the challenging ones lol...
