Anyone know anything about blisters on the bottom of ball pythons.A friend called me asking me if I knew anything about fluid filled blisters on the bottom of his ball.I have never encountered that before so I said i would try to get some help.Any info on blisters and remedies I would appreciate.Could it be a bacterial infection of some sort.

yeah its a burn.... when i worked in a vets office back in high school someone brought one in. he said he used a reptile carpet in a glass aquarium and the snake kept going under the carpet to sit right on the UTH pad. its almost like a brown peelable scab filled with fliud, nasty smelling stuff if i remember right, but that was probably since infection had set in.

It needs to be kept on papertowels. The heater I hope is outside under the enclosure, not in it. I know, but some people put it inside. What you should do is NOT pop the blisters. Soak the snake in lukewarm water with nolvasan in it, just a little. That will help clean it. Keep it on papertowels until the blisters heal. BP's will sometimes urinate on the warmside, then lay in it until it blisters them. It's gross, but it happens. Just keep the area clean, if you want you can use neosporin, WITHOUT pain releif ingredient, to also help fight infection. If it does get infected, a vet is probably necessary. Good Luck!

I heard of a BP that had liquid filled blisters once that were thought to be caused by the use of cedar as a substrate. I do not know if that was the actual reason and maybe someone who knows on here could confirm that. However thermal burn as mentioned is much more likely. Good Luck!

They sound more like the blisters that are caused by prolonged exposure to excessively dirty or wet environments.
Are they whitish/clear and very small?
As mentioned, paper towels, small water bowl (only big enough for drinking) and lots of monitoring.
These can be fatal if they are allowed to spread.
After a few sheds , after being in a sterile environment, they should go away.

Nora that is what I thought about cedar being used for bedding, but I have the exception to the rule here with me now. 12 year old boa kept on cedar for most of its life. Not only that but had a hot rock for heat and was fed live rats!
To read more about this boa (which is available for immediate adoption by the way) .....
