A Step in The Right Direction...
Yesterday i proceeded with the saturday thaw of 2 rats for my BP and RTB...Well as usual my RTB didnt hesitate to swallow. Usually since the thawed rats were not warm, my BP would ignore them and reject them. My RTB just swallows it by scent...its weird...
But last night, i stuck the 2 rats in a doubled garbage bag, and stuck that into boiled water, and after about 40 mins of thawing, both rats were warm to the touch. I tried to dangle for my BP, got no strike, so i left the rat in there and in the RTB's tank and i came to the computer to post...
10 mins i look in both cages and the rats are gone...no where to be seen. They were small rats...My BP is probably a bit underweight since hes starting to eat finicky, so im going to boost his schedule, hopefully i can get in a feed wednesday. My RTB wont stop eating on the other hand, but for her it is also the small rat per 7 days (its to the point now where u can BARELY if not tell where the rat is in her. im not going to medium on her just yet)...
Hopefully i can get my BP back to a solid weight again.

just a bit of advice from experience: be careful about using boiling water. the outer layers of the rat can cook while the inner section thaws. wont harm the snake but ive seen the skin fall off of rats cause of it...not pretty. try using just very warm water.

have you tried dangling the rat in front of the hide box while the snake is in it? usually curiousity gets the best of them and they strike also if that dont work...brain the rat or mouse. the brain is like candy to them.

you slice its head open and let its brain stick out. sounds gross but usually works. how are you heating the rat?

i usually do the same thing chicagocubs22 does and stick about 2 at a time in a double garbage bag and put it in boiling water for about 40-45 minutes and take it out. and all my other boas/pythons jump on them like theirs no tomorrow. ?
