don't take this personally justin and i know this is completely off topic and i'm sure i'll hear something about it. but weren't you giving someone advice on how keeping snakes is a huge responisbility and you got rid of your BP's after they went off feeding?? if that was overwhelming then what about when your baby burm isn't a baby anymore?
k...my rant is over

For your info I'll give you MY royal setup 3ft viv, 2hides, plants, newspaper substrate, heated with a guarded ceramic on a thermostat, hot end is 92day cool 85 night is 85hot, 80-81cool measured with infra red thermomemter and humidity of 60% knocked up to 70-80%when shedding and fresh water is always available. This is a male royal/ball python and mine hasn't eaten anything since October and was stuffing down large rats weekly and has lost weight but nothing to be concerned about, I'm 17 and can get this right so you should be able to aswell and I have NEVER fed live, i have a female BP who was bought as a live feeder but took frozen from day one they were just warmed up a lot and dusted with mousemaker for added live efect and now she feeds every week without a problem. A lot of royals go off feed because they want to breed around now and anyone buying one should be purchasing it knowing that they are gits for feeding at times. I honestly think you should just be patient and leave it 7-14days and then warm up a mouse/rat wiggle it a bit or leave it with your snake and see how it goes.

louise, a small rat is different compared to a large rat in feeding a large boa. The rat i had was post small at best. It was probably as big if not a little bigger then the frozen rats he eats. I actually knew the risk i was taking when i put the rat in there. But its more complicated then that. After he didnt accept it, i wanted to bring it back to the pet store, but they wouldnt accept it. And then my dad suggested to leave it in overnight. And immeadiately brought to mind the risk. But I was confident that this could be the one exception. And it was. I do everything i can in my power to make the care of my reptiles better. and in no way is the husbandry of my ball Python faulty. Since i was frustrated i thought that maybe overnight he would eat it since he is very active at night, but he never ate it. So the next day i just gave to my friend who breeds rats.
My snakes are successfully switched to F/T, and BY NO MEANS am i switching back. But i was frustrated with the lack of eating that i had to try live just once again. It served to me as an indicator as to how the snakes eating habits are...I just thought that maybe F/t is not obvious to him, or it doesnt seem like a rat.
As time goes on i gain experience, and from this i have learned that what i did was a mistake, but JS, not everybody is maticulously oriented with the feeding procedures of the snake...
I guess you can say my BP makes me crazy...
Ironically i switched all my snakes to F/T for the exact reason of danger. But it is to my opinion that at that size of prey item fatality is not an immeadiate risk. it is a medium rat, barely past small. I know how those rats are raised at the pet store.
ill ad more later

I know what your going through with your ball----and the last thing you need is another lecture but it's not IF the rodent will hurt your snake/lizard---but when.
It's a matter of time...kinda like drunk driving.
With the ball we have all been there so relax. It's better to have a ball that's off feed then a ball with a chuck missing from his head...or worse.
I had a hognose that drove me nuts too---now he eats like a champ---don't give up.

God you should work in the funeral business seeing your this good at diggin holes but seriously STOP DIGGING. You say you knew the risk but you could have an exception and you did - erm NOT the point, you took a massive risk and potentially gambled the life of your snake, you wouldn't do that to a human so don't do it to a DEFENCELESS animal. You switched from live to F/T because you knew the risk so WTF did you take the risk for? You do what you can to improve care? STOP feeding live and don't do it again unless there is NO options left. As for the comment about knowledge is gained, yep that's true BUT the whole point of people publishing books and writing care sheets is so that people READ EVERYTHING first and KNOW feeding live isn't acceptable and know what they're getting into. Stop making feeble excuses and take responsibilty and if your royal makes you that crazy and lost for what to do give it to someone who does know what they're doing!

okay you are obviously still young. so if the one time your snake got all bit up would you be able to afford the vet bills? chance has costed me over 1,000.00 to keep her alive. i am not trying to be mean to you but when i see somebody has fed live...it is like throwing salt on an open wound.
