JCP question

i just got my full grown adult female jungle carpet python lat week and it is about feeding time.the guy i got her from said she ate two medium rats a week.i was wondering if i should try to give her a large rat or a jumbo.she is about 6.5 to 7 feet in length and probably about 15 to 20 pounds.(maybe not 20).i would really appreciate any info.
Thank you,
Cody Vail

It really doesn't make much difference with them....2 mediums or 1 large. It is time to move her to a 2 week feeding schedule though. She's getting kinda fat and is obese if your guess at weight is accurate. I would go to 10 days between meals for a couple of months and then skip up to 2 weeks and stick there. It sounds like she's been a wee bit overfed. You might be surprised though if you actually weigh her. they feel and look quite a lot heavier than they really are. 9-10 pounds would be a fairly large carpet python.

Ive found that two smaller meals are generally easier on any snakes digestion as opposed to one large one. It seems to make their bowle movements more regular, and ive also found if a snake is reluctant to eat, substituting two smaller mice for one large one will male it more apt to accept a meal. But thats just my opinion. Its fun to watch big rats get eaten

It depends on the species Mike. Some handle multiple prey better than others. For instance, corallus and epicrates do horrible when fed multiple prey items. Many colubrids and pythons do quite well though especially the notorious little nest raiders like spilotes and Drymarchon ...well both of those species get quite large so I wouldn't exactly call them little A lot of Boa constrictors do ok sometimes if not over done but BCC will often puke it back up.
