A plea for help keeping the forums worth reading

yeah, true. I understand that it is probably annoying when people get off subject during serious conversations. I am not offended by anything anyone has said; I just thought I would give my thoughts as a new member.

i agree that it is annoying when people take away from a serious conversation with something that doesn't compliment the conversation. but having said that, many times it is an administrator (yourself included brett) that has a funny comment to make, that doesn't really answer a question or continue a debate. i am not saying this is bad, just pointing it out. and i know i have a large number of posts for the time i have been here. many are "nice snakes" posts and joking back and forth posts. but alot of them are me asking questions. (and you know brett, that i use the chats and pms and email to ask plenty of questions, too). i think all of the posts are important. (even the ones by people that annoy me).

yah I made a handle bar joke this morning...and let it sit alone for a little while while I thought out an answer...I didn't think the question was a life or death one and it didnt drag out to a long string of goofy offtopicness. Some of you guys are taking my gripe too hard. I like the slapstick stuff...the goofing around and cutting up...but sometimes it gets to be pages of just NOTHING or the same thing over and over...kinda like this thread lol ...and sometimes it changes the tide of a serious topic that someone out there is truely upset about and looking for answers into some splattering of off topic random thoughts. You guys are so defensive lol..or I'm offensive...maybe that's it. I've heard that a few times lol

i definitely agree, that when someone has a problem and are waiting for answers, wading through the smart comments and inside jokes, hoping to find a solution before something they hold dear dies, well, i guess that would be annoying. sorry about being so defensive.

This is a herp community not a scientific data base.
Community tends to mean family-like for most of us.
By posting something like this I think it's going to make certain people leary to post anymore. Not everything is a great debate(although I love that aspect of this place)---and to be honest when someone posts a pic of their snake, child or dog---they expect---and deserve---a response.
And, not every response is going to be a chapter in a novel---some will only be NICE KID--GREAT SNAKE or COOL LIZARD.
If money is the issue ask for donations. I have donated in th epast and I'm sure many would donate if they felt the need was there. But to make people feel like they are being annoying simply because they are being "chatty" through posts is not the smartest way to come across in THE BEST ONLINE HERP COMMUNITY.
Maybe some people have the time for chat but I don't. I have a busy scehdule and I sign on at odd times to check posts and email. I don't talk on the phone much less go into chat. I think I have been in chat 3 times.
If you want people to post paragraphs about the flow in the dyna flow (as Ed Naughton would put it) then maybe I don't belong here myself.
