Granted many member know why, but every so often someone asks it again, people dont search, they ask.
|
This is a valid point Ed. I know it would be great if people came here and searched through past posts, and there must be many that do. However, not everyone does or will. We get to answer a lot of questions over, and over again, but then there are all kinds of takes and angles. It is also a good idea to repeat this kind of stuff, b/c someone new to the site might have a new twist and be able to add something to the arguement one way or another. Fresh views keep us from just regurgitating the same answers over and over. If people just searched for posts, topics would get awful stale.

OK, my 2c.
I have said it before, I will say it again. The only, ONLY reason I stuck around this forum was the fact that you COULD post just about anything and NOT get your rear handed back to you on a platter. Other forums that I tried first I was afraid to post something b/c I have seen them jump at you for being stupid.
Here you CAN post something, and until the past few months no one gave 2 bits about it, it was all in good conversation.
If your going to tell me that I have to draft a 250 word response when a good ol 3 word would do very well that is just crazy.
You want crappy posts, that would be it, nothing like having 4 threads with 15 posts each 200+ words, might as well get a book out, you will have better luck understanding it.
I am going to get off my soap box now, just understand what your asking here. What I get is, *DO NOT POST* (unless you can explain in no less than 100 words the exact meaning of everything you expect to say)

Plus even the most stone cold hard proven facts may turn out to be all wrong tomorrow. Dig back through the past 3 years and look how many of us have changed how we deal with mites over and over again. It gets kinda dangerous to lock down an answer to anything and just keep pointing people to it.
OH LOOKIE here...my post about mindless drivel has gone to page 2 already LOL....ROCK ON!!!
Captain...a lot of people pop in to chat say hi...anyone here? and leave within a minute of asking. Sometimes it gets quiet for a minute or two. If nothing much is going on, people drift into email or the forums or whatever it is other people do online. I don't know how many times I have been typing out a response to someone popping in and asking a quick question only to have them leave before I can get it all typed. That just opened a whole new can of annoying worms lol.

Haha, I can understand how that would be annoying. I am guilty of doing that. I pop in say "hi" or "anyone active" etc.. and then leave when there is no response. My experience with chat though is that unless you're on at night the only people you find active in there are eddie, BW, and sometimes you Julius and can you honestly expect anyone to choose chat over the forums when you three are the usual option in there? j/k

I am not truley swayed either way by either side of this issue. I'd just like to post how I handle mindless drivel threads. I open them once or twice, see what it's about, and then I don't open them again if it is a thread that I care nothing about.
I submit for your thoughts the world famous "Boogers" thread.
It would be utopia if everyone stayed on topic 100% of the time, but it won't ever happen. I actually like it when the threads take on a friendly, conversational tone. To me that is what has kept me here this whole time.
But I am probably wrong.

What do you say is drivel. This thread, among others like it, is a very good debate.

ok, let's put aside the "nice this & Nice that" posts.
now how are we, as admins & mods, going to make it worth reading forums?
I will be posting my opinions & experiences pertaining to the most posted about topics. I can only give my opinion and my experiences, but it will allow for open discussion when others have different opinions and experiences.
But what else can we do? Start (restart) a FAQ thread and have it sticky at the top of each forum?
Open for ideas here guy.....
