new heat rocks

This is a new type of hot rock that is temp controlled, and totally different then the HR's of years ago. It shuts off automatically when surface temps are too high...and there is a mechanism preventing hot spots.
I am curious to know everyone's reaction since I know this is a sensitive subject.

The Heat Wave Rock automatically shuts off when a certain surface temperature is reached to prevent burns or overheating. The fully-encased electronically controlled heating element covers the stone to prevent hot spots.
Well.. it sounds great.. BUT....
It doesn't say what the shut off temperature is and depending on species, could be too low or too hot.
Which also brings in the thought of 'why not have an adjustable thermostat built in?'
No mention of that, so I am assuming it will reach only one temperature, which is set at the factory.

Also, as everyone knows, electronics can fail.
What happens then?
Another fried animal?

I'll pass on these as I do on other hot rock designs

I have never owned a hot rock--baically I use UTH's or heat from above.
I find if I put a rock or cement slab under an overhaed heat source it has the same affect. Tegus, like some other species require belly heat to digest their food properly....Trex spots over their cement basking slabs does the trick for them.
Not to mention I doubt anyone builds a 3 foot x 3 foot heat rock

I agree with eddie. I also have a problem with anything electric being INSIDE the cage with my animals. One malfunction could be all it took to fry an animal I love and care for

No, but Kane heat mats are close
Can't get away without mentioning pig blankets too, since they and Kane are quite similar in appearance.

They also use the cheapest possible thermostat you can find in them... what happens when it fails and you don't realize it?
