He came in today has a respratory problem and a infection on his nose, probably from a rat bite. I cleaned out all of the puss out of the hole, it was pretty bad. He must have been rubbing it on the glass because of the infection. Hopefully now that I have the puss out and cleaned it up I can get him to stop rubbing his nose. Anyone know the formula to figure out the doses of Batril? My vet gave it to me, but I lost it. Here is a close up of his nose.

The hole in the middle of his nose was about 1/4" of solidified puss before this pic

Depends on the strength of the baytril you have
I will assume 22.7 for this one
10mg per kg of snake.
Pounds divided by 2.2 = kg
Kilo X 10 = mg
Mg divided by 22.7mg/ml = dose in ml
Example:
Snake is 5.75 lbs
5.75 divided by 2.2 = 2.6 kg
2.6 X 10 = 26 mg
26 Div by 22.7 = 1.1 mls (medicine)
There are differing trains of thought on thie administration of baytril, varying from vet to vet and even herper to herper, but the latest I have heard (MsTT) is to give the first dose as an IM injection, with the follow up doses being administered orally every second day.
The follow up doses can be cut in half also.
Example...
First dose is 10mg per kg (the above formula) and you simply take the final number and give half for the rest of the treatment. (basically 5mg per kg, but without all the math )
BUT...
Listen very closely...
I would get it to a vet and get a culture done on it and be ensured that baytril is what is needed(IF it is needed at all) for the snake, as baytril, although a good broad spectrum antibiotic, (and very overprescribed) does not penetrate puss or abcesses well at all and I am sure there can be another treatment regimen that will perform much better in this case.
In the mean time, keep it clean and dab some diluted novalson (chlorohexadine solution) on it twice a day. Avoid peroxide, even diluted, for cleanings, as it can cause tissue damage.
It also needs a fecal, since it has been fed live, so ya may as well knock down two stones with one bird

Well I got a bottle of batril form my friend (a vet) and he gave me the same 5-10mg/kg formula. Bravo Eddie you were dead on. His RI isnt all that bad, but it is to the point where it needs batril. As far as the absess goes that has been taken care of. The fecal I will send in as soon as he goes potty. His nose is already 100x better. I will post an updated pic later from work.
