From what I know they are fairly easy to keep, Cute litle buggers. Temperment depends, some are real nice some are real skittish. Normall not inclined to bit, But if they do they ARE very mildly venemous. Most have a reaction like a bee sting. western Hognoses are easir to keep than Easterns. Eastern Hognoses require frogs and toads for prey, they can be switched at times, but not easily.
westerns will take f/t rodents fairly easy.
I'm sure someone eolse will come along and fill you in more.

Western are fairly easy to keep like most colubrids. Many are well tempered but very hissy and a little jumpy sometimes. They are also good eaters. They stay very small. The only thing that concerns me about the hognosed is that they are all rear fanged and have toxic saliva. Some people are allergic to this and it can have a very nasty reaction.

yes i just found something on the net that says they may be considered mildly venomous but it is almost impossible to get them to bite. i love that they play dead when scared. my nephew can get me one but im so not sure if im ready for another snake.

They do have a Devorney's (sp?) gland, but they don't carry true venom, just toxic saliva.
