snake laws
well another bit of bad luck  my mom had a stroke. i need to move to her town close to her to help. i called and no snakes of any kind are allowed in utica. so i called the next closest town and no go! if i move there can they come in my house and take them? or do they let you leave with them? god i hate this. i will not give them up for anything

Louise I'm so sorry 
Do you know how strict they are in that area(Utica)..meaning do they enforce those laws? I know certain animals are not allowed where I live (including Iguanas) but I have always had what I wanted in the house and noone has ever enforced those laws here. Even the cops think it's ridiculous.
Are snakes banned period or can you aquire a *permit* and keep the nonvenomous variety?

I dont know about how well the laws will be held... is it an option to bring your mom to you?

I am an advocate of following local laws.
Bu to answer your question, as long as there is no reason for them to check your house, they generally won't. I assume that they CAN confiscate if they are indeed outloawed in that particular area. If you walk outside with a snake around your neck, then you are making it obvious. If noone knows about them, then how would enforcement know about them.
But again, violating laws regarding herps gives those wishing to take away that right more fuel.
