I'm going to have to pass on taking her. I did some reading last night and I'm still worried about how she would be around the other animals.
Pit Bulls are generally quite aggressive towards other animals, although the degree of aggression will vary from dog to dog.
......Pit Bulls also have a very strong prey drive. Small animals such as birds, squirrels and cats are often viewed as "hunting" targets..........Pit Bulls are slow to mature. A dog may not show his true temperament with other animals until he is 2 or 3 or even 4 years old. Just because your puppy has reached a year of age without having shown animal aggression does not mean he will never manifest the trait. Taken from http://www.realpitbull.com/agg.html

that info must be from the people who do the news articles pitbulls are just like any other dog i mean yeah along time ago they were breed for fighting but there are certain bloodlines to watch for just like herp chick said people over rate them The young Pit Bull should be socialized from early on with many types of animals and other dogs. you cannot socialize or train away genetics. Since most Pit Bulls are pre-disposed to animal aggression, socialization and training are simply tools of management. A dog that has been raised properly will be easier to handle and control than a dog that has not been socialized or taught how to behave. and you see just like I said if the lady had the dog first then it never got the chance to grow with the dog like your research said

I didn't mean for it to seem like I was saying negative things about her or any pit bull. I'm just concerned that she could possibly harm my birds and I posted that stuff to show why. I keep going back and forth on this. Let me talk to my brother and we'll see if we can make a decision.

ok if you read further on in the research you did the dogs that was not raised with the other animals was more likely to see it as prey but if the dog is raised with the animals did it just like another part of the family that's with any dog

Sure. Just like rotties, Cane corsos, dogue de bourdeuxs, and SBt's. You know, there is a reason why shelters don't house pits with other dogs. APBT's can be great w/ other animals, they can also be the absolutely psychotic towards them. I've seen my fair share of docile human adoring pits who wouldn't think twice about ripping open another dog, or even ripping me open just to get to another dog.
Are they essentially like other canine's? Sure. Than again, so are wolves and dingos. And much like large boids and ven's i wouldn't recommend a pit to just anybody. In particular someone w/ allot of other animals in the house.
Of course i might change my mind if you had a free roaming burm to keep the american mutt terrier inline.
Entropy,
Alex

Maybe ignorance on your part? I have a pit that will let the ferret sleep with it. It is how they are raised. Dogs are the most versitle animals you will ever meet. There drive to please overpowers all other feelings for them. If it pleases you for them to fight, they will! If it pleases you to love,,,they will!!!!!!
