Don't we already have one called Julius?
Seriously, it's a good idea and is bound to be consulted on a regular basis.

Is this gonna be the whole ball of wax? Distribution, caresheet, on and on? Is it going to be organized by continent, by animal type (pythons, boas, colubrids), alphabetically?
This sounds like a mammoth undertaking...

Seeing who is where and assgning states and areas for info gathering.
Also pic gathering.
I have a lot of NC hrerps pics in my album for the Charlotte Nature Museum already, and wouldn't take too long to find the latin names and area of habitation info either.

Dude, I can provide a picture, a scientific name and range for every frog/toad, snake, lizard, turtle and salamander for north carolina. Every one. I can tell you which ones are protected by state laws, what their status is, the whole 9 yards. I mean like a field guide, I can spit that stuff out for NC herps, description, range, reproduction, when they lay eggs (if they do), what they eat, how, typical behaviour.
I have the herps of North Carolina totally and completely nailed.

Sorry I missed Chat, but am at the inlaws and couldn't get on that late at night, their bed is in the computer room.
Anyway, I can probably cover South Carolina and Virginia as well, unless you've got someone for them already. Texas should be a joke between Telefrag and Ravnos.
Are you going to split up the rest of the world into continents and assign a group to them?
South America, Africa, Europe, Asia, Australia (easy enough)

What kind of drill down scope are we going for? By geographical location? I.e. will the first page list continents and drill down from there? Or will it be by animal groups (ie. Snakes, Lizards etc) or both?

Ok, so where are we at with this thing? Do we need to make a steering committee to keep this thing rolling?

Jay, I nominate you Chairman of the steering committee. I'll handle herps found in Kentucky and any other geographic region that you think I need as well as serve refreshments. What Natas needs at the moment is a comprehensive listing of the Class Reptilia tree from the top down to Genus. Genus and species will be handled by the people submiting the info.
