I was a little surprised at his seemingly unreserved support for
Oz herp exportation. The report he refers to states that not enough
research has been done into possible affects of collection on wild populations of herps. I would have grave concerns that small remnant
pockets of habitat near population centres could easily and quickly be
stripped of a species if legeslation allowing the collection of animals by hobbyists came to pass.
Victoria is a small state with currently 100'000 herpers, they suggest a relaxation in licencing would see a marked increase in numbers, lets say 150,000 in a couple of years. Hmmm.. I don't like the idea of those herpers deciding they might want a new beardie or bluetounge one year and going plucking them from the wild,....potentially 75,000 beardies gone from the Victorian bush in a year, thats scary.
I don't 100% disagree with the guy I just have my reservations.
