Prices for snakes?
Is it just me or do prices for snakes seem to be climbing?
I have been looking for a second hog island female and it seems that they have gone up $75-$90 in the last couple of months.

I've noticed an increase in a few species myself. Hogs are one of them.

I think because it is show season. When the off show season is around they lower the prices so they move.
Plus the season to have clutches is past, so all the mass purchases are over, now they are holding out to make their money. Plus you have to figure they have been housing and feeding them(hopefully) so they add in those costs too.

DOes anybody know of a "price guide" of sorts? This could be an interesting feature, where we collect City, State, Species, price of purchase, age at purchase, any special comment (possible het, etc)... If we all start to contribute after a while you would have a good database of High/Medium low prices...

I think prices are subjective and based on availability, if there were not a log of Hogg islands (for exampe) produced in a year, the breeders that did have sucess may recognize that and adjust their prices accordingly.

That's an interesting thought Slap...and may work for some comparison. However, one thing that varies is what the animal looks like and who you bought it from. I know I would pay more for a snake from someone I trust as opposed to someone I might not know. That goes a lot more for hets than for anything else, but I have, on occasion paid more for a boa b/c I knew it would come to me healthy and free of parasites when I could have bought a comparable boa at a discounted price elsewhere.

Most definetly. Also, mine, as pets, I "fell in love" with and that has to do also with how much you pay. Still, it is good to have a "range". Example, I was looking at Surinams lately. Within a given range I would pay a little more or less depending on source, references, and the "fall in love" factor...
