Thank a Vet
I feel the need to start a thread to thank the people that keep Americans free. I know we have members that are or have been active military. I sincerely thank you all from the bottom of my heart. You have the courage and patriotism that us (civilians) could only dream of. Thank you for your time, effort, and sacrifice. For the most part you have a thankless job. I want you to know that you all are in my families thoughts and we appreciate you.

Re: Thank a Vet
ROF-LMAO....I was thinking 'veterinarian' when I clicked on this thread!
(maybe I need sleep?)
Anyway...you're welcome!
And thanks from me too, to all the vets, esp. those serving (or who did serve) during wartime! (my service was during peaceful times...but you never know...things can change quickly)

Thanks to all the vets out there. My grandfather was in the Navy, stationed in Alaska and decoded stuff those silly commie Russians were babbling about
Your bravery keeps me safe in my bed at night. I appreciate it!

I have two retired Generals and colonel in my family. I got married early and had kids. Even married with kids I feel ashamed that I didnt do one tour. I feel like we will never be able to fully repay our millitary ?personel? I have to be careful because it is easy for me to point out wastd tax dollars that could go to the people that risk their lives and get underpaid. (Sorry for grammar. Please dont As hard as it may be please dont make any rants on this thread either.)

Re: Thank a Vet
Thanks!! Funny, almost everyone who said "thanks" in all my years in the military (retired now), were people in foreign countries. It's great to hear it.
I'd like to add my thanks to all currently serving. We certainly need you now.

Maybe that's changing? (or just a local quirk?) I live in a fairly small town & at many local entertainment shows, the audience is asked about military service & thanked!?! First time I experienced it, I was stunned!
But if it's just a local thing, now the rest of you know what to do...?

Ha ha ha...so did I.. Now I don't feel so bad. Yeah...gotta love the people that keep us safe! My father fought in WWII, and lived most of his life working in the National Guard. So I give a special shout-out to the National Guard units all over the country, serving here or overseas. Ooh Rah!!!!

sorry, I love that movie and couldn't resist. I wouldn't say the military are in a thankless job - as a country we do a decent job of supporting our own troops, I think. Then again, I'm married to a vet and in a mostly military family, so there's no shortage of love for the military here.
The only problem is the people *directing* the military, unfortunately, and that's what gets our men and women criticized so much. But hey, when you sign up to let others make choices for you, that's what happens. Nevertheless, I also think the military gets too much criticism for things that aren't their fault for the same reasons mentioned.
My brother in law (sister's hubby) is out in Alabama right now training troops for specific missions, he's been in for 19 years, got retirement right around the corner. A trip each to Iraq and Afghanistan, received some damage in Iraq and got a purple heart. Man's got a ton of stories, both good and bad, I love talking to him about his career. My other brother in law (wife's brother) was in the Army and served in The Gulf War, my wife was in the Navy for 5 years, her father was in the Navy for a while, HIS father was in the Navy for some time as well. Two of my uncles were military - one Navy the other Army, both of them served in Vietnam.

Re: Thank a Vet
I'm lucky...4 deployments and no purple heart and very few war stories. I can honestly say tha I'm proud of that. I have seen many "kids" come through my class that want to go to war for whatever reason. I've seen a few later that have changed their mind and wish they never went.
I have 22 years and 5 days completed and 18 more days before retirement. Thank you to all that will be replacing me.

Re: Thank a Vet
Yes the Vets do have a thankless job and I am one civilian that is very proud of all are Vets dead and living. I for one will never forget what they have done and are doing for us. I have several relatives that where in the military. One of them was even at D-Day on Omaha Beach and even walked the whole way to Berlin and survived all the fighting. He even has a old black and white picture of a German buzz bomb just above a home in London before it hit.
Take care,
Tom
