My thought is that if the snakes are not harmed, and no other people are harmed
but that is my point i been trying to make, it does hurt other people, it hurts all the responsible owners when the guy gets bit. he is putting on a show for all them people. man is kissing scary cobra and endangering his life. snake=deadly/scary. not the image i want to uphold to people.

Cobras are soooo cute! How could you NOT want to kiss them?!

And Louise, you can borrow Tristin. He gives kisses.

Re: Guy Kisses 19 Cobras

Well, these snakes ARE deadly/scary. They are dangerous animals. I don't know that someone would see a king cobra and think, "wow, my friend's milk snake is gonna kill me." You'd have to be pretty stupid. But I don't think there is anything wrong with people respecting dangerous animals. That does not necessarily mean they have to hate them. That's up to the person.

Re: Guy Kisses 19 Cobras

Louise, I remember the video of you teaching max to give you kisses. In a way, you were tempting fate, too. Although burms are not venomous, one strike in the face from him could take out an eye or worse. The only difference is, this guy is playing with higher stakes.

Re: Guy Kisses 19 Cobras

yeah star i guess you are right about max and kisses. i would have had to go to the hospital and they would have known a snake bite. if you have noticed i have not been around to much again. max is really starting to play on me. i miss him so much and the site is a reminder. dhonaker has not sent me one pic yet cause he is to busy with what is going on in his life.
i need to stay off the handling venomous snakes and kissing venomous snakes threads. i think i just need a small break again.

And I am busy kissing/cuddling Snookems right now...we have been out enjoying the gorgeous weather and watering my front yard! I am thinking about making her a climbing tower like the cat tower Sakara was using with her snake...I have some ideas. Snooks doesn't 'work out' enough!

I think I did. This is what I typically do. Some find it annoying. Others call it "thinking outside the box." ha ha ha ha

Nah....it's not much of a risk IF you really understand your snake! I haven't handled my bci ("Snookems") in a while, so when I approached her today I was not shocked that I got loudly hissed at! I stroked her a bit to remind her who I am, and picked her up without incident (-she has NEVER bitten me in the 10 years I've had her!)....we strolled outside in the beautiful weather for over an hour...she was relaxed, climbing all over me (and getting some serious 'face time', reminding her that I am nothing to fear!). When I finally had to get dinner for me & the dogs, she predictably did not want back in her cage!
Many people keep snakes and never develop a good rapport with them! (And they frequently tell you it's impossible?!?) Louise.... you were not one of them!

I think we walk a fine line when we anthropomorphize. On the one hand, I believe it is absolutely possible to build mutual trust with your snake. However, they are STILL snakes!!! Just tonight Veronica took a swing at me. A few minutes later she was calm as a puppy dog, and I took her out for a walk.

That they (as wild animals) 'forget us' when left alone is true...they instinctively look out for "#1". But once re-acquainted (and assuming you have some rapport going on) they are normally quite trustworthy...at least that's always been my experience. (and I make a point of not carrying any rodent scent on me...as they are largely scent driven and that would confuse them, no question!)
Out of curiousity, have you ever experienced the reverse??? Friendly first, then bonkers?

Well, I only have two. Most of the time they are sweethearts. But once in a while.....like what Veronica did tonight. Good thing I can read her moods and she doesn't scare me. After she struck, it didn't faze me to spray her with water and then reach in and pet her head. For all we know, the guy in the video has kept those snakes for years also and has developed a rapport with them. In fact, I think this has to happen for him to get so close without getting bitten.

I guess what I was trying to say was that having a rapport with your snakes does not guarantee you will never get bit.

Re: Guy Kisses 19 Cobras

So it's hard to tell where you stand. So do you think this guy is irresponsible? You seemed to agree that he was earlier in the thread. But now you're saying that the less fear you have, the less likely you are to get bit (which I agree with). By your reasoning, if this guy has raised these snakes from neonates, knows them really well, and is unafraid of them, he will not get bit. You have also mentioned Grace Olive Wiley, who free handled hots until she got bit by one later in her life. Do you think it was because she was afraid that day? Or just the luck of the draw? I'm just trying to understand where you are coming from - you seem to sit on both sides of the fence.

Personally, I agree with you 100% that when you are afraid, you are more likely to attract the thing you are afraid of. Beliefs are very powerful.

Re: Guy Kisses 19 Cobras

I AM on both sides of the fence, lol!
I don't want to 'encourage' people to do this!!!...And if you need encouragement, you have no business doing this, grasshoppa...
For the record the fellow kissing 19 cobras was adept but fearful...I hope he finds a better line of work! (Work/needing money is NOT a good reason to take such chances...just a common one!)
Grace was not afraid.....she was distracted & complacent....(it was an interview/photoshoot).....loss of focus can get you killed (in many activities)!
There are many dangerous things in life one can choose to do or not do....they do have risks but far less risk for someone 'in the moment'.
Some people choose to accept these risks for doing what they love...we are not all the same. Life does not come with guarantees, or if it did, we have all voided the warranty?

Re: Guy Kisses 19 Cobras

I don't feel like it's my place to judge what they do. I once had a very dangerous job that earned a lot of money. After I quit, I looked back and wondered how it was that I never got beat up or killed. My only concern here would be if the animals were being harmed. I supposed that any animals used for entertainment will be stressed to a degree. I personally don't care if people want to play roulette with their lives for money, adrenaline rush, or whatever. I guess we all have to do what is in us to do.
