Doctors... Rant...

So ok... Y'all know that I got out of the Army due to an ankle injury that was misdiagnosed as a sprained ankle... I really had torn ligaments and had to have surgery that didn't help and I got out.....

anyway... because of my ankle injury, my hip and back suffered as well... My doctor said that the last MRI showed stress areas in my hip but he was more concerned about fixing the original issue with the ankle before addressing the hip issue...

well... now that I'm preggo... My hip has only gotten worse... I know, pain comes with pregnancy... But I already had an injury and it gets to the point sometimes that it hurts to move, walk, etc... I brought this up to my preggo. doctor because when you are preggo and attached to the military, the ob/gyn is your primary care doctor until you give birth

The thing that ticks me off is that I am seriously concerned that I may have stress fractures or some other issue with my hip that would hinder me giving birth naturally... My doctors don't seem concerned at all... -______- I don't understand how a doctor can just say "oh you will be fine" when there is a possibility that there may be a very bad problem with my hip... I mean, normally I'd just rest and let it heal, because with a stress fracture or small fracture in the hip that's really all you can do other then surgery...

I'm just worried because I don't plan on having a c-section... I plan to have her naturally... But I wanna know if I have anything wrong with my hip before I give birth so that if there is a fracture I don't crack my freakin hip giving birth... I do NOT want a c-section... But if there is a chance my hip might break or break worse, I'd rather have the c-section, LOL...

It just ticks me off that the doctor is soooo sure It'll be fine without even looking into it... especially when I've had a BAD misdiagnosis before -____- I'm trying to push for a referral off post if they refuse an X-Ray...

i promise you, C sections are soooo much better. my first 2 were natural and second 2 c sections. i would have never done natural if i had only known.
tell your doctor you are not comfortable with him just saying you will be fine, tell him you WANT tests done.

yea... I have to make an appointment for the next week or so...

I had Ethan naturally with an epidural... it was simple, LOL... I slept until the nurse woke me up to tell me I was ready.. 2 pushes and he was out... lol...

I just need to know like ASAP if I need to schedule a C-Section... because I would have to make sure they can extend Ryan's paternity leave a little so he can help while I'm recovering from it...

the first time i gave birth i was 16 and it was natural. i tried to jump out the window. lol. i begged my X husband to shoot me and i told my mom if she loved me she would put me out of my misery.

lol... I was 19 when I had Ethan... they had to induce me and after they gave me the pitocin and before the epidural I was NOT happy... lol... My ex told me I wasn't in pain... I yelled at him and told him to come over there and I'll show him pain

hahaha...

I just hope everything goes smoothly... I know they don't recommend X-Rays while preggo... but I think in some situations when it concerns something serious like this that they would do it... With extra lead packs on my belly, LOL

I had my daughter when I was 18. I had to be induced. I was in labor for about 15 hours & had to have a c-section. I was soooo tired I didn't really care. I had an epidural as well, so I was feeling good none-the-less. She was facing upwards in the birth canal and she just wouldn't lower her head under my pelvis, so I had to have a c-section or I would lose her because she was stuck. It seems just like yesterday...

the amount of radiation from one x-ray isn't enough to hurt your baby. if you were getting CT scans weekly? yeah, that'd be really bad. If everytime you walk you are having pain in a localized area you probably should get x-rays. Doctors just would like to limit your exposure to those machines as much as they can

and I had 2 X-Rays when I was preg. with Ethan... So I don't understand why the doctors here are having such a fit over not letting me get one dang X-Ray... I feel that it's a serious thing that needs to be addressed... If it turns out the not be broken or anything, then GREAT! but i would rather know now than have problems later -___-

But I just don't think it should be ignored when this is SERIOUS pain... and I have a high pain tolerance... So yea... constant non relenting pain needs to be checked out IMO... Especially considering the doctor told me I can take 1,000 mil. of Tylenol every 6 hours and I DO and it doesn't even touch the pain AT ALL... There obviously has to be something wrong, lol

I think your concerns are totally valid and I'd want more tests too! The military loves to tell SM's about their benefits, like the free medical care, but from what I saw of it, that's about what it's worth!
Glad I'm not the only one that finds Tylenol to be useless....?

well... it's not bad... IF you find a good doctor... Like my ortho that actually did MULTIPLE tests to see that my ankle ligaments were torn... It was just too late and the surgery did help, but not as well as he hoped it would...

But for every good doctor you find there are like 10 not so great ones... lol... I don't want to down on doctors, because I didn't go through the training they did... But c'mon... I know my body and I know that something isn't right... and for them to say, "it's just because your pregnant and the extra weight puts pressure there" when I had these issues BEFORE I got preggo is just ridiculous...

and don't worry... All the babies still get all the love they need

I just can't be carrying around full size female boas for very long, LOL! That's where Crystal comes in handy

She comes and helps me clean cages, especially with the bigger stuff, lol... So she's a big help while Ryan is away

and yea... tylenol doesn't do anything... I'm sure that's partially because before I got preggo I was always prescribed codeine, vicodin, percoset and other strooooong meds like that for my pain, lol... So tylenol is pretty much like candy

That's kinda what I meant....
I wasn't refering to now, I was refering to later...hip issues....I sure hope not!

Any treatment or diagnostic test for your hip must be weighed against any possible risk to the baby.

I deff. agree... But my concern is that if there is a serious problem and they don't find out now and they let me give birth... What if my hip cracks? what if I can't walk afterward? what if I have to have surgery to fix it? With Ryan deployed, I can't really take those type of chances... I have to be able to take care of my kid and pets... And although I have friends here that can help with the snakes, I have absolutely no family that could help with personal or baby stuff if needed... Until Ryan gets home, I'm pretty much on my own... lol... So I'd kind of like to avoid any possible further hip issues...

I know the mil medical system has serious issues, but can you request to change docs?

Another option, although a slow irritating one, is to go to the ER a few times. You'll be pretty much guaranteed to see a different doc and not have to listen to "you'll be fine" from your's.

If Darnall is as bad now as it was 15 years ago, expect to wait a while in the ER. The one and only time I went I bled all over the ER for 4-5 hours and finally left when the 1.5" gash in my hand stopped bleeding.

I have considered that also because Darnall refuses to induce me AT ALL... Like... if Ryan gets home and she wants to come late, they refuse to induce me on my due date so that he can be here for the birth... how stupid is that??? It's his first and last (someone is gettin' fixed after this one, LOL) kid that he's gonna have and he wants to be here for the birth... They just anger me all around, lol...

and yea the ER still sucks, LOL... if you aren't like dying right then and there they make you wait a LONG time... Even if they aren't busy you will still wait a couple hours... And the crappy thing is that because I'm over 20 weeks preggo. they won't even see me at the "normal ER" they send me up to the preggo ER

I can't win, LOL!

I was in 21st Evac (or whatever it is now...M.A.S.H...I think) for a while when I was there. My medic roomie told me that if I ever went to the ER, tell them that my chest hurt and I could breath in addition to the real reason I was there.
