my poor mom
a little about my mom. she is an awesome decorator, it was always her passion in life. i guess when she was a young girl they sent her to new york to be an interior decorator. she got home sick and came back. my mom dont own anything that she dont decorate. her place looks like a magazine. well she said she would decorate my place for me since i am horrible at that kind of stuff. she comes over on my day off and she decorates. she is 86 so i have to do the climbing and stuff like that.
today she comes over with her little basket of stuff to decorate with, of course she lined the basket and glued wood apples on the outside. bite you tongue to think you could just use an old wood basket!
she decided she did not like where she hung a picture over the TV and wanted me to hang it over my bed. i went in there and pudge (bp) was doing his let me out dance. so i opened his cage door and got on my bed and hung the picture. i warned my mom pudges cage was open she is scared of all snakes but chance (poor chance cannot even scare little old ladies) i hung the picture and walked back over to the cage. pudge got on me to come out. mom did think it was cute how he crawled from his cage to me.
we decorated more in the living room while i held pudge. mom kept an eye on him to make sure he did not get to close to her. i am proud of my mom cause when i first got snakes she would not come in my house. she would barely crack her car window to talk to me even when my snakes were locked up. she had lived in GA at one point and realized lots of wild snakes live there. she sold her place and got right back to MI. but i do have pics of her holding chance.
okay we are in the living room and she wants me to climb on a chair and hang a picture. i have to put pudge somewhere while i do this.
so i say , hey mom, i am taking your stuff out of the basket and putting pudge in it while i hang the picture. okay i guess she is getting deaf and i should have spoke up
here is her pretty little basket, at least the way she remembers it.

i see her steadily heading towards it with more decorations to put in it. i tried to stop her, i really did when she arrives at her basket and bends over to put her goodies in, she finds this

she lets out a little squeal and pretty much launches the stuff that was in her hand.
now this is where karma comes in....i start my hysterical laughter and i am helpless when laughing, i cant drive, i cant walk, i think i laugh harder then any human alive. i try to get off the chair while laughing and instead i fall off it sideways and land on my butt. my mom looks at me and says 'i dont know why i have anything to do with you, you think i would have learned by now' then she starts laughing. it was great.

Re: my poor mom
pudge is just happy to be out. he dont care what else happens. i took him outside while i BBQ'd yesterday. he was in heaven. i gave up on worrying if my neighbors see one of my smaller snakes. they all have pitbulls and they are not allowed here.

Re: my poor mom
Great story!
Hey, is that an incense burner in that basket in the first picture? I haven't seen one of those things for so many years.
And, hey, some paintbrushes too. Nice.

Nice lantern, then.
Country, huh? I like rustic style stuff, especially homes. Are you going to include a musket and a rocking chair?

my mom knows my snakes are all spoiled messes and if one is trying to get out it is coming out. i think my mom has enough love for me to accept snakes.

Don't you wish everybody did...??
I think we all have to work on 'converting' those around us...like supporting RTB, it's just something ya gotta do! It takes a long time to turn public opinion around, but eventually snakes are no longer an 'outlaw' pet!
PS Give your Mom a hug!

she deserves a hug cause honestly her phobia was bad. she could not watch a TV show if there was a snake on it. i had a huge poster of alice cooper in my room and he had a redtail boa around his neck. she could not even come in my room. she moved to GA and lived in a little town called reynolds, she had a place that she loved and fixed perfectly. she had a pecan tree in her yard and she thought there was a dead branch on it, she went and hit the dead branch with a stick and it was actually a snake. she did not even wait for her place to sell, she moved back to MI. even seeing a snake on TV you could see her get goosebumps. chance is what changed her. she drove us to all 3 of chances surgeries. the third surgery i was crying so hard that the vet put me in a room not in the waiting room (it was the first surgery that chance had to be put under, i was suppose to get to go in till she was sleeping and the other vet that was helping with the surgery did not allow it) i think that day my mom changed for good. she pet chance when she got out of surgery and it is the first time she called chance 'grandmas girl' my mom also rubbed/patted my back till they came out to tell me chance was okay and getting over the anesthetic. mom would even call me when i lived in GA and ask me how grandmas girl was doing. we were not even suppose to stay at the vet for the surgery. we were suppose to go home and come back after chance recovered, of course we never left.

Re: my poor mom
thats awesome. they allow the snakes to be there in my case. i think they just dont care to see them. not really scared or anything. my mom let me have a ball python when i was younger and didnt know anything about them so shes probably ok too.
she's made excellent progress with chance tho. happy for ya.
