See if your camera has a macro setting. That's what I use on my Mavica to get good close-ups.

To get clear, crisp bright photographs your camera needs to have Macro mode, yours does'nt.
The Coolpix line of digital camera's is what I recommend as far as best macro goes.
Getting a better camera may help, but don't expect to get good pictures right away or any as good as you may see on the internet, taking pictures is a skill and takes practice.
What I personally use is a Nikon Coolpix 950, here are some thumbnail images I have taken with it in macro mode. When you see these great photo's online or anywhere keep in mind that it sometimes takes 100's of photo's to get a nice shot like the ones I will picture below.

I looked up the stats on your camera. If you turn Macro on, you have a focus range of 10" to Infinity... that means that to get a decent focus, you should hold you camera at 10" or greater from your subject. As you shop for new cameras, pay close attention to what the focus range is. The closer you can get, the better your pics will turn out. The nikon coolpix 880 for instance has a focus range of 1.6" to infinity
There are other factors, but for close up work, a good macro setting is your best friend.

Mine is a Fuji Finepix 3800. I'm pretty sure on Macro the minimum distance is 1" yep 1 inch. Now if i can only get my amazons to hold still with a camera an inch from thier face. Hmmmmm.

so if the range is 1" to infinity, does that mean if you hold the camera infinity inches from your subject you'll get a nice clear picture of it? Thats amazing!

400.00 Not sure bout the infinity part. A macro lens doesn't reaaly do much far away.
