I got a call yesterday through our wildlife rehab line. This girl who I'd say was in her early twenties decided she wanted a snake, so she heads to one of the "so called wonderful" petstores here and purchased a baby ball python. The petstore put this python in one of those carrying boxes that mice are put in for transport. Thats right, they put it in a folding box that never stays folded out right. Well, guess what happened. Thats right.. the snake got loose. It is now somewhere in the car the girl was driving. They called wanting to know what they needed to do to find the snake. They said they had looked and looked but cant find the snake anywhere. I told them they could strip the interior out, seats and all. I also told the girl to go buy a mouse(f/t) and place it in a 2 litre bottle and maybe the snake is a bit hungry(knowing how petstores care for snakes) and will go in the bottle to eat. With the temps getting like they had the last couple days I dont know if the little guy survived or not but it was worth a try. The best part of this is the girl was driving a barrowed car and the guy she barrowed it from is terrified of snakes. I guess there will now be a cadillac for sale cheap due to this lol.

Did she find it? I had a baby iguana escape in my car up into the ducts, luckily
I thought quick and turned on the AC, the lil lizard came running out FAST!
Hope she can find it.. poor thing probably ended up somewhere in the engine trying
to get warm.

I talked to this girl again today and she said she still hasnt found the snake. With the temps as high as they have been I dont think this snake has a chance, unless it made it out of the car by some chance.
The things that riles me the most about this situation is 1: this was an impulse buy and the girl didnt have a clue as to the needs of a snake, 2: the petstore didnt even try to educate her on anything about the care of reptiles, and 3: (the worse one) the petstore was STUPID enough to put this snake in a collapsable rodent box.
I have almost took a trip out to this petstore to have a chat with them but they are about too dang ignorant for the chat to remain civil so I am reluctant to even go.
I just hope what I have told this girl will stick in her mind. I know I opened her eyes to a lot that day. Maybe she will think twice about getting another snake without getting more info first. All we can do is hope.

I got my leopard gecko jammed up in a car. we took the whole dashboard out, put dead crickets where ur feet go and a heat lamp. never got out. but the car never stunk up so it prolly died in our garage or dropped out somewhere on the road. X_x
