Here's what I sent to them:
I am sure what damage you did was quite unintentional, but it was damage
nonetheless. As far as 200 pound boa constrictors (I am guessing you
were referring to anacondas, since they are the only boas that get to
that size), I presently own an eight foot long Burmese Python who is
overweight at 30 pounds. Since Burmese are notoriously larger than most
boas, with the exception of the anaconda, I am surprised that somehow a
200 pound red tailed boa could be found anywhere on this planet. Also,
boas do NOT have fangs, they do have a lot of teeth, but no fangs. Their
teeth are uniform in size and although can break human skin should you
manage to get yourself bitten, they are superficial wounds that heal
very quickly, provided you use common sense and wash them. I would
rather be bitten by any one of my snakes, my adult burmese python
included than a household cat any day. (Trust me, after 14 years as a
veterinary technician, I have received more than a few cat bites.)
Another interesting point, if people mange to eradicate, or even to
lower, the snake population in this country, we will be faced with
$millions more in rodent damage to homes and crops, diseases carried by
rats and squirrels are devastating to human populations (bubonic plague
ring a bell?).
I am very disappointed in the quality of that broadcast, instead of
trying to educate your viewers, you managed to propagate horrible myths
and untruths. Not something of which you should be proud. It's a shame
that with all the other problems we have in this world, you would rather
make up and feed ridiculous fears and lies.
Disappointed,
-Lisa Skinner
