The reason we have snake hooks....
I fed Veronica yesterday morning. I took her out and put newspaper in her cage. Well, you all know how Verononica feels when she sees newspaper, right?

All right, where is it? Huh????
Normally I get her all the way in with the door closed BEFORE she figures out there is newspaper. Well, yesterday, I got most of her body in the cage but her head was hanging out. And she KNEW! I couldn't close the cage door without killing her. She was holding this adorable and very threatening S-pose, staring straight at me! (Sorry, this was not an opportune time to take a picture). I had one hand trying to hold the door shut to keep her from getting further out and coming after me. This left me with one free hand. I had to think fast.....
Then I remembered! I keep the hook inside the pedestal. I very carefully slid the door of the pedestal open, all the while staring straight into her eyes. I got the hook and very quickly hooked her neck and put her back in the cage and closed the cage door. She was still up against the side of the door when I dangled her rat. Here are the results.
I'm SOOOO grateful for the snakehook when I needed it! If I hadn't been able to reach it, I honestly don't know what I would have done.
Anyone else have any stories where they were saved by a snake hook?

I have another funny story where I was saved by a snake hook. But I think I need alcohol to tell that story.
So let's hear your stories!

Yeah, have you seen her lately? She could probably feed a small village for a week or two.

I don't have a snake hook. But I have a pair of 24'' hemostats. I don't know how I'd manage feeding(especially my blood and boa) without them.

Re: The reason we have snake hooks....
I got me one. I have used it on several occasions. My Veronica tends to think it's meal time every time I want to get her out, so when I open the door I get that same adorable little "s" curve and all of her attention.
One little bump with the snake hook against her and she knows what the deal is. After that, I can reach in and grab her. She just has to know that it's not feeding time.

My snake hook might as well be attached to me.

Re: The reason we have snake hooks....
Snakes, back scratching, picking up stuff when you don't feel like bending over , reaching for that beer on the other side of the table. These are all perfectly proper ways to use a hook.

Re: The reason we have snake hooks....
I still don't have a snake hook. I'll probably buy one at the herp expo in October just so I can say I have one. I'll need one for Riley before too long anyway, most likely. His food response is insane. XD

Re: The reason we have snake hooks....
i dont have a hook, as most my snakes are under a year old still, and my hog requires two hands to usually get him untangled from whatever is within tails reach! as mine get bigger i will most likely pick one up.
