I have one! I rarely use it at home but whenever I go hiking or camping it's right there by my side lol.

Hook training the retic so she knows the hook means no food is forthcoming. and my ATB is.....an ATB.

well, i dont have an ATB

im pretty sure i would have one if i had one of them lol. we do have 2 retics though, but they are easy to convince that i do not have food when i reach in (on non-feeding days). they LOVE their food, but they arent crazy and calm down as soon as they realize they are not getting food. i think mine just look around when i open their cage, no tongs = no food, at least for my younger one. with maya, my older one, i put her rat or bunny on a plastic bin lid and slide it in the cage, and she gets it on her own. maya used to get fed with the tongs, but her food is so big and heavy now that its really hard to hold her food with tongs lol, so she gets a bin lid and finds it on her own

Snake hooks are NOT available in Jamaica, No Problem.

I got mine in Canada. I had to get an extra long duffel bag to put it in to bring it back to Jamaica. Amazingly, it escaped with only minor injuries through our Customs on arrival and survived the XRay Machine unscathed. I treasure it and use it quite often for a variety of things but mostly to show off to my friends - like I'm some big Snake Wrangler - right!!!

Yes I do use it for my boa or my feisty BP sometimes!

My agressive snake came to me as a rescue from an abusive home. She's calmind down its just taking time to earn her trust.

I don't have a snake hook. I should have one for when I go looking for Rattlesnakes in the Wasatch Mountain foothills, and for the rare occassion that may occur that it might be called upon, however up to this point I really haven't needed one. I believe in a very hands on approach to dealing with my snakes and so far the bites have been very rare. I always grab tail first.

I only use my small wire one with my jcp, have to wait till it's older to see how much aggression she has, or if it just a juvenile thing.

I had the big one made for field herping.

Hmmm....the way i deal with mine is just like what danny said lol. i just reach in with my hands. mine know what hands are and none of them have tried to bite my hand while in their cage as a feeding response lol. I think i startled one of my snakes twice and she bit me, but thats it, and was well over a year ago. she has a big mouth and it bled quite a bit, i learned my lesson!

LOL grabbing beers, scratching your back, and getting stuff out from under your bed? ha ha ha. Mine is really good for reaching hats I have hanging on nails at the top of my closet walls. But outside of that one episode the other day, I have never used it on a snake.

It was used one time for another very funny reason. But someone needs to send me a drink before I tell that one.

Also, where is hartsock? He has a very interesting use for his snake hook!

It all started back in 2008. Some of you may remember I dated a guy from RTB who lived an hour away from me. We dated for about 2-1/2 months, until I found out that he was lying about his divorce and a lot of other things. I broke off contact with him immediately on July 7th. Unfortunately, this was not the last time I saw him. He happened to go to the reptile expo a month later. He was there with his young daughter, carrying her on his shoulders. This was before I knew he had lied to the army and told them he couldn't walk and had no feeling from the waist down. He was faking a condition to try and get a fake medical discharge. He'd apparently been trying for this for a year. So the point of this is that he was a really bad person, and one that I really did not want to see or hear from, or even share a forum with. Ever again. So there he was at the reptile expo.

I was there with my friend Dennis, who had met him and who despised him equally because of how he had lied to me. Dennis and I totally ignored X. We didn't look at him. We didn't talk to him. But it wasn't easy because X was following me and standing right next to me at every booth I went to! He didn't talk to me. He was just stalking me. I was REALLY creepy!!! I would just turn around and ignore him. Eventually, he'd go away, but then he'd come up right beside me at the next booth.

Well I happened to buy a snake hook at that show. I was carrying it around by the handle, but I kept accidently hitting people in the crotch with it, so I gave it to Dennis to carry. Dennis and I had stopped at this one vendor's booth, so I could ask some questions. Unbeknownst to me, X had sneaked up right behind me and got so close that he was practically on top of me!! He was apparently towering over me as if he was trying to smell my hair! He is 6'4" and I am 5'4" so it must have looked pretty funny. I missed the whole thing, because Dennis had my back.

When X got really close, Dennis jabbed him in the crotch with the snake hook. (LOL!) That did not deter him. So Dennis jabbed him again much harder. Apparently, the hook almost caught on X's zipper. At that point, X backed up with his hands up and quickly left the show never to return.

Dennis told me the story over lunch about the "player who almost got exposed". I was laughing so hard I almost spit out my strawberry shake. I probably snarfed it through my nose the way snakehooked does with her coffee. We laughed about this for a long time afterward, and I still get tears in my eyes from laughing whenever I tell the story about the player who got hooked.

I believe everything happens for a reason, and this was the reason I was meant to buy the $15 snake hook that day.

Epilogue: When I found out about X was defrauding the army, I was asked to be a witness in the investigation. X had lied and said he never went to the reptile expo. But the funny thing was, when Dennis took a picture of me with a snake at that expo, X turned up in the background. Poor X is the stupidest con artist who ever lived.
