Well, the deal is sealed. We are most likely moving to Arizona this summer. My ? is, what will I be able to take on the trip in the suburban from Pennsylvania to Arizona. That is one long Don't muck with the curse filter trip. What will I have to sell? I am keeping all the cages unlike most people do. I REALLY want to keep them all but I dont think all would do well?? Please, if you could help me out id GREATLY GREATLY appreciate it.! Thank you in advance

How long of a move is it? Are you flying or driving? I am moving myself soon and
will be taking all my critters, I plan to drive the car (the b/f will drive the moving
van). I plan to keep my gravid boa in her cage in the backseat, the rest of the boas
will be placed in snake-bags and then placed with similar sized snakes 2-3 per in rubbermaid
tubs which will stack behind the seats and on top of the one cage. I plan to keep the
heater on (as needed) I will have a thermometer in the car so I can check every 20-30 min
and make sure temps are correct. (I'll also be taking 2 fish in the trunk (opened to the cab)
and a dog in the front seat! LOL) I drove from LA to here (6 hours) like this before and
didn't have any problems at all with any of the critters, at that time I had an iguana as
well. I just pulled over every 2-3 hours and checked on everyone. Good luck with your move!

PA to AZ is going to be a long trip but all should be fine if you take the proper precautions.
Transport them all in rubbermaids and control the temps with heat or air conditioning as needed.

Ok. But the thing is it may be hard. My dad is always trying to say otherwise of how i care for them. Such as, "you overfeed them(i feed them every sunday)," "you dont need lights on from 8 in the morning till 8 at night." So I dont know how hed feel about me having the car hot just for snakes and lizards?? he wouldnt be very compliant unfortunately. Oh and I'm driving to keep my dad company. My mom, sis, and bro are flying.

Where in Arizona are you moving? When I moved from Las Vegas back to northern California I had my snakes and cages together in one vehicle, so once I reached my destination I could set them up ASAP. Of course that trip wasn't as long as the one you'll be making, but April's (Hisba's) points are good. I moved in the fall, so my concern was keeping the snakes warm...easy enough with heaters in a car. Your situation is going to be a bit tougher because once you hit the deserts daytime highs will be 105 to 110 F, on average (and possibly higher). Thats okay while your driving and you've got the A/C going, but stopping for food, potty breaks, etc. will be challenging particularly if you can't find shade (a parked car in the sun can get 140 to 160 F pretty quick). Shade the transport containers somehow in the car, because even with A/C a box in the sun can still heat them up. Even at night, it's not unusual for temps. to still be in the high 90's or low 100's until midnight. So you'll want to have things planned with getting the snakes set in a comfy spot once you arrive at your new home. It doesn't take long for a snake to expire when its 100+ degrees.

I forget how many you have but why not let mom, sis, and bro travel with them on the plane? Put them in locked pet enclosures and they should be fine. People travel with pets all the time. If they are unwilling to do this you could just Delta Dash the animals to your new location. Granted this isn't the cheapest way, but probably will prevent baked reptiles.

Another option along the lines Ed_r's suggestion would be to place them with a "sitter" that could watch them until you get out there and get the cages setup. Then you could have them shipped via UPS or other means.

Well I was reading the latest Reptiles and VERY few planes allow reptiles to travel, even as cargo. So scratch that. I'm not sure. I was just thinking of giving my friend who owns a reptile store a few of them for adoption. Not the snakes maybe the tokay, ig, and one of the savs. Im not sure its all stressful and stuff cause it was sprung on me yesterday while driving back from bein picked up from vacation. AAAAAAAAAH

Amerca West Policy
US Airways
US Airways is the only one that puts the label "traditional" pets on their policy. I think this is very arguable though.

Wow, thank you Ed_r I didnt expect someone to take the time to look it up for me. I appreciate it. When I find out what they're flying then I'll call and ask about reptiles as cargo. Thank you again.

If they don't specify, I wouldn't bring it up in advance for them to say no to. Or else be prepared to arrive at the airport a couple extra hours early to allow for agueing time.

Folks,
I've read all the policy links provided and they all pertain
to dogs, cats and birds on a couple for carry on. Another problem
I see is vet certificates of health. Surely that will be clearly marked
reptile or snake which is pretty hard to miss if the clerk can see and read.
I see nothing about reptiles and even encountered warnings about cargo temps exceeding
100 degrees at one of the sites. That clearly isn't an option.
I hate to be a spoil sport here but when I checked with airlines I found
none that would take reptiles....none. Delta Dash does IF you are an approved
shipper and part of their approval status was to have shipped a minimum of
12 shipments in the past year. Now I am talking about Florida rules and regs
but that is where I live. If I moved I would have to drive....
flying isn't an option for me here.
The only thought I have is to fly Dad out and you drive in by yourself or go ahead
and place your animals with your friend and get others in AZ. Most here I know won't
agree as they are all very taken with their animals and have raised many of them from
babies. They are committed to them for life. I'd like to think most of us are yet some
times things happen that are beyond our control and pets must be let go of for practical
reasons. I'm hoping you can keep yours yet would understand if it becomes impossible
for the circumstances here.
Keep asking and make it urgent and maybe the folks will let you drive out alone and fly
Dad too. Maybe you have a friend that would drive out also if you paid for gas and food along the way and they could start and stop and check things out for you. Just get on the horn
and check out all possibilities before any final decisions for those you have to live with
from now on.
Good luck.......
