I used to own a bow was set for 75-90#'s on the draw, And I also tried the quick release and found I could do better with out it, than with.
And what is the old saying, just one more variable to go wrong.

Yeah, If I get the money, I want a bow for this season too. Would not mind getting a M/L though, they are pretty cool too.

Re: Firearms / Hunting Thread
Dang. Wish I had seen this thread earlier..... Ranger why no PM me?!? Anyway X doesn't have that many guns....but I'm VERY good with the ones I have. ......
'54 Mosin Nagant M44 (I probably have 700rds of 7.62x54r, this thing is a TACK DRIVER):
Remington 870 Express 12ga (I have less than 100 shells of 2.75" 00 buck and slug and 3" 00 buck and slug)
HK USP Compact .40 (couple hundred rounds of miscellaneous types of ammo, but the pictured ammo stays loaded 24/7):
Group shot:
-LdyDrgn/Morti: I find that the Brown Bear 203gr round works THE best in those old Mosin Nagants....plus it's non corrosive.
-The ammo for the HK is the Federal HST 180gr (basically a new-gen HydraShok on speed), in all my ballistics research it has THE best overall performance numbers among the higher end stuff, but is still relatively easy to obtain. Don't know what other calibers they make it in.

Thanks for the tip, X! He's going to order some Silver Bear for my CZ-82. We still have a butt load of Russian, Yugo and commercial rounds for the Mosin to go through.

I don't have any pics handy but prefer to bow hunt. I got a Matthews Drenalin and when I don't bag a deer during archery I use a Browning A-Bolt 7mm Rem.

Silver Bear fails on a HUGE scale. I'd avoid it. Hard to find GOOD ammo for the 7.62 because so much of it is corrosive. I don't think the Brown Bear is, and it's an AWESOME round. Less recoil, snappier report, and much more accurate. I pay $12 for a box of 20rds which is definitely expensive for 7.62x54 but still fairly cheap.

Sorry X, Ranger my fault to I was sitting wondering why X hasn't posted but never got to the PM.
Do you guys reload ammo or do you mainly buy new. We reload everything except the 22 rimfire (part of Hubbies collection,) don't even go down that road last count I think is was at 11 weapons. He is qualified as a Dedicated Hunter hence he has more than I do, that and he started his collect before me. Not fair.

Re: Firearms / Hunting Thread
He won't be buying it for the Mosin, silly. lol From everything he's read, the Silver Bear works well with the CZ-82. He bought a box of Wolf for me to just throw down range, and a box of Hornady hollow points for home defense.... the Hornady jammed over and over again. Couldn't get just one to chamber right! The Wolf, half the price, went through easily.

I don't reload, but I'm starting to think it would be a good idea.

Well yeah I knew that, but I've heard people having problems with the Silver Bear. Tell Donnie to hit up http://www.gunatics.com for gun info. Wolf is EPIC fail ammo btw. I've heard good things about the Hornady Critical Defense round, but haven't seen any good numbers on it. Are you looking for other good home defense rounds? Here are a few that can be sworn by (though you will need to test fire them obviously):
-Speer Gold Dot
-Federal HST (I use this in .40)
-Winchester SXT (or Ranger-T)
Crap. Realized that you're trying to find ammo for the Makarov. Here:
A918RFMJ-BROWN BEAR 9X18 MAKAROV 95GR FMJ

Re: Firearms / Hunting Thread
I carry the Federal HST (.40) in my EDC, and it has fed flawlessly, but my G23 eats whatever I throw in it.

Good man. I had expected no less. You don't have any problems with the Glock? I had heard they can be a bit ammo finicky, especially with JHPs.

I've heard that too, about 40 cal glocks, I have a 22 that has nearly 30k rounds through it of various types.
The wolf would never extract properly, due to the nature of steel cases getting stuck in the chamber.
I have been told that the feed ramps on a 40cal glock are a bit abrupt and depending on the spacing of the round being used, they can hang up. I have not personally experienced this.
I've used lots of wolf in various guns
7.62x39 wolf is fine
7.62x54 wolf has never caused me any issues
9mm, 40, 45 wolf in various guns has all had issues for me.
223 wolf has never caused me any issues, neither has the brown or silver bear, but I hear stories about people having issues, which has to beg the question, was the firearm they were using with it 100% functional?
most people who shoot 223 are doing so through an AR platform of some type and wolf ammo being reputed to be very dirty I would assume would clog the gas system of a traditional AR/M4 type rifle after a short time.
I ran 1k rounds of a combination of cheap Russian surplus through my gas piston AR and had zero failures of any type, but my friend with a rock river and dpms, both had issues firing the russian surplus.
Extraction, hard primers, feeding, etc.
It probably all comes down to the gun.
I put probably over 5k of wolf through a pair of AK's in one weekend many years ago (when it was like 60$ a case of 1k) with not a single ammo related issue (a few magazine problems, but that had nothing to do with ammo)
so shoot what you can find, and keep your gun clean and you probably won't have many issues.

Re: Firearms / Hunting Thread
I used to reload, but it has gotten very difficult to reload in my state. We can't mail order anything to us, so you have to rely on the store carrying it. Used to reload 12 Ga shotshells, .357, and 30-06.

I fear No Corrosion. I just clean at the range while it is still hot.
The Brown Bear 203 gr. Soft Point is the commercial ammo I have available for it. I really like the Yugo surplus better because it is brass cased. It feeds much better than the laquered case of the Brown Bear or the copper wash of the Russian surplus. Rumor has it that the yugo is also non-corrosive, but I still treat it like any other surplus.
