Abby is getting a bigger home!
I was searching around on craigslist and found a steal of a deal! I'm getting a 75 gallon tank for $50! She has been in a 55 since she was little. She seems to really like the space. I know that isn't the norm for a BP but she is all over the place all night long. Really the only big difference is more floor space. I'll post pics after I pic it up and get everything set up for her. Does anyone know if you can peel and RE-stick a UTH?

Re: Abby is getting a bigger home!
Actually you can't peel and stick the UTH it messes them up and they can short out causing it to get WAAAY too hot or not work at all.

I would just buy cobra heat mats: they aren't sticky sided so they are reusable. And they're about the same price.

I'll have to look into that! I do plan on building something that is better suited for a snake in the near future.

Re: Abby is getting a bigger home!
does anyone have any ideas for a lid for this thing? I would like to find a way to help keep a little more humidity in. It stays at least 50% in her 55 gallon at all times. I would like to bump that to about 65%. I know the larger tank will be more of a challenge to do that. I'm sure most of it just goes up and out with the screen type lid.

also has anyone ever put one of those repti-waterfall-things in with their snake? I would like to do something a little different with the extra room.

Re: Abby is getting a bigger home!
I've learned that DIY plexi-glass cutting is not easy. I'm usually pretty handy with DIY projects, but this was horrible! I got the idea to get pieces of plexi-glass cut that will fit in the recesses on the top of the tank. Then put hinges in the middle and have two doors that open like a "V". That was all great until I realized it would be such a great fit there would be zero ventilation. SO... I thought why not cut strips in the plexi for a vent. This would still hold more humidity than a wire style lid... End result = one wasted piece of 16.5" X 22.5" plexi. Does anyone know if glass companies can do this?

Re: Abby is getting a bigger home!
I would rather have the "slits" for more air flow. I would have to put a bunch of holes to make up for the difference. I'm thinking three rows of slits on three sides of each lid. I think it might look a little more "commercial" that way too. Thanks for the suggestion though!

Re: Abby is getting a bigger home!
That is a killer deal. When I sell my 75 gallon, I hope to get at least $125. Nice job setting it up. No, you cannot reuse a UTH. Regarding the waterfall thingie, I've heard mixed reviews about using those for snakes. Some have said the snakes like them, and others have said the vibrations bother the snake. There is a thread on it around here somewhere (sorry, I fail at finding old threads).

Re: Abby is getting a bigger home!
I don't do so well finding old threads either. I just don't have the patience for all of it! She seems to be curious about everything, but she's in the blue right now and can't see very well... Humidity is at 78% and staying strong!! I have about a 1/4 " gap around all of the plexi for now.

I know that my local plastic supplier will do a good deal of fabrication for you. A better route might be to contact a local trophy shop. They usually have laser cutting equipment if you want something very specific. I'm not really sure what the pricing would be like, this is information I've learned from my reading about computer modding.

Re: Abby is getting a bigger home!
Whats "hard" about the plevxi cutting? I cut it all the time, very simple just like wood.
Main thing is to leave the protective film on both sides...any expased can be taped with masking tape. Use a regular wood blade in a circular saw, jigsaw, table saw, etc. Run around the rough edge with some sand paper quickly and THEN peel tape/film off.
Wear safety glasses, that stuff goes everywhere.
Does that help? How did you cut it?
It looks AWESOME BTW.

Re: Abby is getting a bigger home!
Boaman,
I'll give that a shot. I guess my mistake was taking off the protective film. I'll use the masking tape idea on the scrap piece and give it a whirl! Thanks for the advice!
Zombi-hed: that's a great idea with the trophy people! I would have never thought about that.

Re: Abby is getting a bigger home!
Cool deal! The masking tape is better to me as it allows the deck of the saw to slide better.
Oh and I wasnt trying to sound all "know it all" up there, just trying to help.
