Re: Decorating
We like that Jurassic park zoo like feeling. I guess I would describe it as human minimalist and reptile maximist.

Re: Decorating
Lots of plants and lots of natural light. The more windows, the better. I wish that my house had skylights right now. Probably a project for us next year.
As far as decorating? I like the rustic, worn look, but my woman likes the contemporary look. So, there has to be compromise.
One thing that we both agree on is that less is more. We don't like too many decorations.

Re: Decorating
My house is kind of decorated in an eclectic mix of classical, artsy, victorian, gothic, nerdy, and snake/dog/cat owner chic.
I have lots of books everywhere, along with art of various sorts, terrariums, dog beds and cat trees, Greek, Roman, and Egyptian knickknacks and statuary, some skulls and morbid type stuff, and so on. I am admittedly a bit of a decoration mutt.
To give a few examples:
One of my showcase cages that I purchased this year; I need to take pictures of the other seven.

(Please ignore the crappy picture of me and the adorable but smug looking ferret)
What about you? What is your decoration style?

Re: Decorating
You have wonderful taste (and gorgeous hair).
I love the urn in the terrarium.

Re: Decorating
I am discussing color with some decorating ladies on a decorating forum. I am thinking of using some non traditional color like lilac on my walls, but I'm still thinking it over.

Aww; thank you! The urn in the terrarium is from my random habit of raiding the aquarium section of local pet stores for snake cage decor; you find a lot of great stuff for reptiles in there.

That's a great idea; it could be very pretty! Would it be alright if I asked what 'look' you are aiming for in regards to the over-all décor of your home?

Re: Decorating
Well, one of the reasons I'm putting up polls is that I am clueless on decorating. But, I like big pieces of comfy dark furniture while at the same time wanting an airy and pretty look. I ordered burgundy colored slipcovers for the dark brown leather sofa/loveseat to see how a splash of bright color would look.
I also found a nice neutral paint color called macadamia, so I 'm mulling over whether I can provide color through pillows/slipcovers/accessories rather than a bright wall.
When my Dad was my age he hired a decorator and got all new furniture, unfortunately at the moment I can't afford to do that so I am trying to figure it all out myself.
