Decorating: minimalism?
I might be selling my home in the burbs and moving into the city, so I am trying to spruce it up a little for the real estate lady's visit. I painted the living room, and put away a lot of the clutter- I had a collection of copper pots and pans which was nice, but there was stuff everywhere.
It actually looks very nice now with just a few simple decorations.
My Dad and his wife collect silver items, and she has an orchid collection. There is stuff everywhere, it looks nice but there is something one every surface and wall.
Do y'all decorate with a lot of stuff or are you a minimalist?

Re: Decorating: minimalism?
I'm pretty much a minimalist. I do have one room of my house where every wall is decorated with guitars, but that's a product of functionalism. I was out of floor space.

Re: Decorating: minimalism?
Minimalist to the extreme.
The wife has art and other non functional stuff all over the place. If it was up to me anything without a purpose wouldn't be in the house. Decorations don't have a useful purpose. Yea, I know I'm weird...

Re: Decorating: minimalism?
I'm a complete minimalist. I don't care too much for decorations and "collectables" other than my snakes :P But really spending a couple of hundred on random things to lay about the house compared to buying a spiffy new cage...just doesn't compare. I do so dreadfully hate nicknacks hahaha

Re: Decorating: minimalism?
I'm a minimalist....mostly because my money has better places to go rather than to decorations... Like utilities, mortgage, food, pet supplies, etc.. Really though, I can't stand clutter, or rooms that are too busy. It makes my brain hurt. I've actually been staring at two candles my fiance put on the mantle.....they don't belong there, and they're just strewn about......I've got to go move them now....

Re: Decorating: minimalism?
Now that my fiancee has moved in, we have considerably more non-functional things on the wall. And the pirate flag no longer flies in the living room...

.
But you are happier.
I am starting to pack stuff this week. (I just found out that if I sell my home they expect me out on closing day) So I'm packing the meaningful stuff and some decorations I really like, but a lot of stuff is going to get sold on CL.
All this may not happen until summer but I'm going through and deciding now which stuff will be packed and what needs to get sold.

Re: Decorating: minimalism?
I have to have some decoration in my home. Blank walls drive me crazy. I have movie posters, some framed puzzles, and some original artwork on my walls. I like things like vases and candles on my coffee tables. And a few filled book shelves are a must for me. I have four book shelves up right now and still have some over-flow packed in boxes. I like bright soft colors, or true neutrals like white, black, and grey.
I somehow ended up the middle road between the way my mom and aunt decorate (next to nothing) and the way my grandma decorates (busy wallpapers, crap covering every surface, etc).
