Carefresh Bedding?
I use Ultra Carefresh bedding for our mammals, and it is great.
I decided to try it out for my snakes, so I bought a huge bag of it. Has anybody tried using this? It says that is has no pine or cedar oils in it, but that worries me that they specifically call out the two worst beddings for snakes... X(

Re: Carefresh Bedding?
I actually used to use this before Delilah got her mites (or at least showed she had them). DB loved the stuff! Both of them didn't seem to have any problems with it. The only thing I had a problem with was sometimes they had little white fuzzies all over them when they'd burrow!!!

Great! Thanks so much! I eradicated every mite in every tank with Provent-a-Mite so I should be fine in that respect.
I was just really worried because I neglected to check the material before buying it. Ultra says it's cellulose fiber, but that doesn't tell me what tree it came from.

Re: Carefresh Bedding?
Yeah I'm really not sure about what it's made from. Neither of them got sick or anything while they were on it. I know it's not the best advice, but "the guy at the pet store" said it's fine for reptiles. This was when I first got my snake. He was on it for over a year with no side effects.

Re: Carefresh Bedding?
I think it is made out of recycled cardboard and should be very safe. I have used it for my snakes and they really like it. The only drawback is that it does not hold humidity very well.

Great! I am noticing that it acts as a strong desiccant.
I was having problems with humidity before using this stuff, but I also increased the size of the water bowls along with the substrate change.

We've used it for a couple of years with our snakes. Covering 90-95% (They have an adjustable flap) of the top screen 55% humidity is no problem. Our BRB has her water bowl partially over the UTH and her humidity is 65-70%. You just need to control how much heat an humidity leaves the tank.

UGH!!! the best thing about CareFresh is it's easy to spot clean. Any kind of mess stands out.

Re: Carefresh Bedding?
I can see how snakes would love it but I prefer aspen for price. I use Carefresh for my hamsters but that's it.

Re: Carefresh Bedding?
I think CareFresh holds humidity better than aspen.
