Anyone Else Feeling Lousy?
Today is the first day I've felt halfway decent in about 2 weeks. Had a very bad sinus infection - hardly posted and was in bed for several days. I guess the stuff is going around here. I hate that feeling of trying to go to sleep at nite and not being able to breath well. Ugghhh. Anitbiotics constipate me and antihistamines make my heart race. But it's good to be seizing the day!

Re: Anyone Else Feeling Lousy?
'Tis the season!! I've been battling a cold/sinus problem/stomach issues for the past month (then again, that's what I get for working in a pharmacy!). As far as antihistamines, have you tried either Claritin or Benadryl? They tend to work. The pseudoephedrine tends to make your heart race, but those 2 products don't have it. Good luck with the infection and feel better!!

Re: Anyone Else Feeling Lousy?
The best thing that I have found to work for congestion and colds is alkaselser night lemon flavor. Cleans your sinuses out completely and makes it able to sleep. Went through being sick about 2 weeks ago.

Thanks for the suggestion. I take Claritin in the spring - dr. recommended it - but I never thought of using it like you suggest. Makes a lot of sense. I'll give it a try since I have some at home.

Re: Anyone Else Feeling Lousy?
I have been very fortunate to have not been ill, especially having sat next to various classmates who have been quite ill.
I hate taking medicine, so when I get sick I always overdose on water and a product called Airborne. It's just a bunch of vitamins and minerals for immune boosting and comes in the form of a tablet which you dissolve in water.

Most of the new forula's they came out with sucks. I hate the fda, and the atf. what give the the right to mess up the good old fashion meds that have work for years.
If they want to make meth out of the stuff let them kill themselves.
Niquil isn't as strong as it used to be. To think about it nothing is.
God I have hate the system some times if not all the time.

Re: Anyone Else Feeling Lousy?
I had a terrible head cold earlier in the semester and it made me feel sooooo bad... and it made me feel even more bad because I would dose-off in class when I wasn't trying to. All I had to take was Alka-Seltzer Plus Cold and that stuff knocks me out. Benadryl knocks me out for hours so I don't take that stuff anymore.
What I find works good for me otherwise is eating lots of foods with vinegar (looove pickles, banana peppers and pickled cauliflour and just vinegar in general), hot and sour soup and drinking 100% cranberry juice.

Re: Anyone Else Feeling Lousy?
I take enough prescription meds that when I get sick I don't really like taking OTC stuff... alternatives:
For congestion, naturally drink a LOT of water. Get some ginger, either fresh or ground and steep a bit in hot water. Strain and and honey. Ginger is a natural expectorant. mmmmm, ginger tea, I love it. Between that and the water, congestion will loosen up and you can get rid of it!
Take 3000 mg of vitamin C daily. Either 1500 mg twice a day or 1000 mg three times a day. This will help you not feel the cold symptoms so much.
Vitamin B complex and protein. Good for energy.
When you aren't sick, make sure you get plenty of Vitamin E and Zinc to boost the immune system. I take StressTabs with Zinc. They are high potency vitamins and work very well.
Remember, Zinc does nothing for you while you are sick, so avoid the lozenges with it, you need Vit C! Zinc is only good at preventing colds, not helping get rid of them.
Get well soon, all!

That's interesting because I love vinegar - the foods you mentioned are in my diet a lot. The other night I had a large bowl of the spicy sour soup from our local Chinese place and my sinuses drained out. They filled back up of course but I had relief for several hours and got rid of some stuff. I love the ginger tea also. The more natural the better I feel about it.
Have any of you heard of rubbing Vicks Vapo Rub on the soles of your feet and then putting on socks before you go to bed? It was recommended to me to stop the coughing at night. Believe it or not it has worked over the past several nights since trying it.

I can't believe I forgot to mention that! My boss recommends that to customers all the time! It really does help, though.

I hear Vicks works wonders. Too bad it gives me a rash.
