I saw some documentary (probably Discovery Channel) where this guy was relieving himself in a river and one of those things found its way up his opening. He was in a lot of pain and had to get it surgically removed.

as soon as i read the title of this thread camel spiders came to mind and i was gonna goole that picture. lol. yep by far the creepiest thing on the planet. i was told they chase people if you run from them! they wouldn't have to chase me cause i would die of heart failure on the spot!

Yea if i ever saw one of those things coming at me i would dissolve into a blubbering mass of hysterical mutterings and lie there being eaten whilst rocking back and forth. Proof ladies and gentlemen that there indeed is no god, how could s/he let something this horrifying exist.

I really don't find many animals creepy.
Ironically, I ADORE tarantulas but I get slightly uneasy about little spiders...
The animal that intrigues me most, that I think has the creepiness in it's so-called "history," is the giant or colossal squid. I'd love to be part of an expedition for looking for one, to just see one out in the wild, but it's an extremely rare sight.

There are lots of camel crickets in people's crawl spaces here. In a previous job as a termite inspector, I was under a house one day when my boss's wife called him on his cell phone. As he was talking to her, a camel cricket jumped into his mouth. This was me:

i would die.the first time i seen one at bretts house i almost went through the glass doors without opening them, i about knocked myself out. i was screaming there was a prehistoric bug in the house!

Was it alone? They usually hang out in gangs of 10 or 15 under houses. I actually have a few close-up pics somewhere.

i am glad you posted this because i have had nightmares about camel spiders. still scary but not half as bad as the folklore/myths on them.

it was alone in the laundry room. then i found one all the way upstairs in my bedroom. brett said it was very uncommon for them to be upstairs. but that is how my luck runs. find the pictures if you can. they are god awful beasts!
