small FIRE in the reptile room this morning!!
This morning I woke up pretty much right after 9:00, the lights in the pet room are set to turn on then as well.
I went to start making a tea and then just went to make sure all the lights came on etc. I walked in and the room was full of smoke, at first I had no idea where it was comming from and I was still not even awake yet. Bones (my small tegu) was flippin out in his cage.
Thr Iguana (I'm assuming she's the only one with free roam, plus she was looking down at the scene from her perch) had knocked over one of the huge heat lamps that I have on the tegus enclosure, one is fastned down, the other wasn't yet as I just got it to up the temps for the big cage. However it was 2 feet away from the edge and big & flat... still my mistake, I'm so stupid/lucky.
Anyways I found the heat lamp face down on the ground, smoke billowing from underneath it, it must have just started as the lights just went on. I'm so lucky I woke up then!! I turned off the switch on the powerbar and found a half flaming hole in the ground pretty much. It just burnt through the carpet, I got to it just in time. I have a nice large heatblub size imprint in front of the tegu cage now as a reminder. I'll get some pics after the smoke clears out a bit more.
Surprisingly the lamp & bulb still work! No damage to them, the only pet that seems stressed by the whole thing is bones but I've got a fan in there and he's starting to relax, poor guy.
Anyways, just a reminder to secure your heat lamps everyone!!!
