Just an idea....

I was just wondering, after thinking about TammyJamaica, Is there some way we might be able to help out our friends and family here if there is a natural disaster or something to that effect. I know there's got to be some of us figuring out what to pack and all since Louisiana is already evacuating for Gustav. Tammy is in Jamaica and Gustav is supposed to be a Cat 1 Hurricane when it hits Jamaica head on. I imagine it's got to be hard to take care of the animals and family and all that when you're suddenly displaced and have no home for a while. I don't have as many reptiles as a lot of us do and it's already difficult for me to imagine and adequately plan for this kind of stuff.

I don't know if a thread like this was already started or not but I thought it should be brought up. Anybody have a list or plan they'd like to share for those of us who haven't had to do it before? I have ideas but have no idea where to begin. The hardest thing for me is I would have to stay because of my job and leave everything up to my boyfriend to handle, so I'd like to make it as easy as possible...

I have a house in Baton Rouge, La and this was put out by locals of New Orleans. Don't know if it would apply to Jamaica since its and island and hurricanes would mess up 90% of it, but worth looking into seeing if there is a near by shelter that is better reinforced to send any animals to. If they agree to give them back at no fee!
"The city's animal shelter began preparations to evacuate scores of animals to shelters in Texas and the state capital of Baton Rouge, and urged residents to include their pets in their evacuation plans".
This is for Gustav and he is four days out from LA.

yeah, but i was wondering if there was something we could do as a community to help each other out, although i have no idea what.

i'm also looking for advice and ideas on evacuation plans like supplies and stuff. i figure there's got to be some of us who's had to do it before...

Here is a link to FEMA's evacuation plans! Might be helpfull we follow these in LA, but Osha has a plan to you might want to check out.
