Don't eastern hogs get a digestive disorder when switched over to mice? I thought I heard they have a severly shortened life span when fed rodents. I could be wrong just something I have heard.

I have heard that too, but the same goes for king cobras that get switched over to rats, they dont usually do that well.
They may survive, but I dont know if I call it living.

theres a reason hogs only eat frogs/toads.

thats the way they evolved.
they werent meant to eat rodents.

We have tons of hognose snakes around here in the summer,, no wonder we have seen less and less toads..

Yah trying to switch an eastern hog to rodents is a bad idea. They cannot digest them properly and develop liver disease if they are fed rodents. Keep them on toads...as annoying as that may be...it's what ya gotta do to keep them alive. Western hogs and others seem to do well on rodents though. Dunno why the easterns are such a pain.

I have to say that ball pythons should be on both lists. I bought mine at a reptile expo Feb 1st she just finally ate, after offering mice, rats an she finally gave into a gerbil. I was worried that I was doing something wrong. I always read about everything before I get it. Ball pythons would be on both lists if I wrote it. Corn snake have to be on the best. Mine has eaten every time I have offered food. I took me awhile to get use to it. I never thought I would own a snake I have two now an a thied on the way. Along with my beardied. Reptiles are in my opion the best of pets.

Ok time for me to way in on this .

" As for the Pituophis, don't forget the gophers "

While I was still living in my home state California I repeatedly picked up wild Pacific Gopher snakes . I must say I have never once been struck at by any including the big adults . All where very calm and friendly . So at least the Pacific Gopher should be on the best list for temperment and hardieness

As fare as Burms go......................... If BP's should be on both so should burms . I have seen the very best and worst in them . Right now there is a wonderfull Albino Burm in the local shop I would have no fear being around . She is one of the best . And I have met others

exactly like her .
