Re: Peta does it again....

Color me unsurprised. I've been following the PETA reports for a few years now, and it's the same thing year after year. 5-1% of animals received are "adopted out", and all the rest are killed. MOST of the animals PETA gets as owner surrenders are killed in the van before even pulling out of the driveway.

It used to shock and horrify me, but over the years I've found myself just shaking my head over it. Problem is, PETA uses their huge budget to advertise, and the people who know what ACTUALLY goes on over there don't have the kind of budget available to counter-advertise against them.

Though if you think about it, we wouldn't have this sort of problem if people just spayed and neutered their pets.

Yeah. Unfortunately there are just so many greedy people out there who think they're above the neutering rule. Little Jimmy wants to see the miracle of life in his own living room instead of through discovery channel like responsible pet owners. I know a place in the nieghborhood where they have a "puppies for sale" sign up every week with a different breed. I'd like to go up to them and ask where their USDA licenses are. [You need a USDA permit for breeding more than three females of domesticated or undomesticated mammals] But my mom would never let me do that even though she thinks its messed up too.

That doesn't surprise me in the least.

...*posts the link on her Facebook page, so a local PETA member can see it* I don't think she even knows the truth and if she does, she's the biggest hypocrite I know.

Re: Peta does it again....

eh, PETA has to take extreme measures. NEW Hampshire's motto is "give me freedom or give me death". Maybe that is what they are getting at? PETA serves it's purpose. I can't take their side cuz I keep animals in cages, so...... make of it what you will.

There are lots of irresponsible reptile keepers out there, I just don't socialize with them.. Im not going to quit keeping snakes.

Well I became a vegetarian because my boyfriend was one and I wanted to lose weight. It half worked. Boyfriend dumped me, but I did lose a lot of weight.

I started eating meat again when people assumed I was a card-carrying PETA member just because I didn't eat meat. I lost my weight, I figured I could eat delicious dead cow again.

Edit- That and I has just moved out of a place where I was living with one of those militant vegans. I couldn't even eat cheese when I lived with her. It was a sad, long month.

I still eat mostly vegetarian. It really makes you feel better in general. I've read that human intestines aren't made to digest meat effectively, so I guess that makes sense. Most people eat meat three meals a day, every day. I eat meat maybe twice a week.

Sorry I'm in the dark here what is the Peta? Are they like the SPCA?

Sorry but I just like meat to much to give it up. But then we hunt and 90% of the meat I eat was shot by myself or my husband we mainly only buy Fish & chicken (free range).

PETA stands for People for Ethical Treatment of Animals. They are the people that protest the fur industry by throwing paint on people's fur coats and other such nonsense.

They're also rather famous for their "I'd Rather Go Naked Than Wear Fur" campaign.

Okay got the picture now. Bunny hugging gone wild but not in a good why. Let me guess all people that have exotic pets are mean to them and should be hung by our under wear.

Do they do any good work?

Oh yes. We are horrible people for taking these poor creatures out of their natural environment and caging them. Same goes for just about every animal.

They got the idea right, we should treat animals better, but their sensationalist way of going about it makes me feel ill.

Yep, that's pretty much them in a nut shell. No they do not do any good work. They are just a bunch of bully extremists.

Re: Peta does it again....

People should stand up and protest peta. There is no call for them to kill 19,200 animals, did any of you read any of the links on that website.
Adoption rate .83%.
I will continue on not supporting them.

America does not go abroad in search of monsters to destroy. She is the well-wisher to the freedom and independence of all. She well knows that by enlisting under other banners than her own, were they even the banners of foreign independence, she would involve herself beyond the power of extrication in all the wars of interest and intrigue, of individual avarice, envy and ambition, which assume the colors and usurp the standards of freedom. – John Quincy Adams (1821)

Re: Peta does it again....

well, to do that and not look totally uninformed, you would have to also protest places like the humane society and municipal animal shelters, peta aint got nothing on them.

I worked for the local humane society in high school, in one day they put down probably 300 animals.
needless to say, I didn't last past my first day.
